Description of the picture "Harvest" of Plastov. Example of interpretation

Painting is a unique kind of art. With the help of paints, brushes and pencils, artists can take us to the distant past, draw what can happen through the centuries and capture events that will become history in a few moments. Painting is more understandable than music, and often its meaning is clearer and more transparent than in verbal images. It requires from the viewer one - "complicity", empathy, inclusion in the dumb dialogue, which is with us the artist.

Plastov - singer of the people's Russia

Arkady Plastov refers to that remarkable galaxy of brush masters who left a deep mark in Russian art. His paintings are deeply folk, because they reflect the life of a common man with all its unwise events. And all together they form in the great chronicle of the country, difficult and heroic. "Rus peasant" - the main character of all his works. And it's not only people, but nature. It is not just a background to help uncover the plot, but a full participant in all events. Proof of this is the description of the painting "Harvest" by AA Plastov.

History of creation

The canvas was written in 1945, very important for the country. The last months of the war, the ardent expectation of victory and the continuing pain and bitterness of the fact that many have fallen in its fields and will not return - these are the basic moods of the time. All this can be felt through the description of the painting "Harvest" of Plastov, which is in the famous Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. The artist worked on canvas with oil, the dimensions of the canvas are quite large - 166x219 cm. The historical basis of the work is not accidental in the work of the master. Before Harvest, they wrote another, striking tragedy, picture - "The Fascist Has Arrived." And although there are no obvious signs of war on the canvas that interests us, it is still transmitted through a common color. Let's try to feel it through the description of the painting "Harvest" of Plastov.

Characteristics of the canvas

In the foreground of the picture we see a group of people. This is an old collective farmer and three children. They have dinner, having finished their hard peasant work. The man is already quite elderly, his beard is almost completely white, and his thick hair, blown by the wind and his sporadic work, is completely intertwined with a web of gray hair. Immediately, the description of the painting "Reaping" Plastov suggests such reflections: why is an old man who has already given up the land and work almost all his life, instead of resting so overwhelmingly to tear himself up? About this later, but for now we will continue to consider the hero of the work. The artist carefully wrote out his calloused, darkened from work, calloused hands. In one he holds a piece of black bread, in the other - a wooden spoon, which gently slurps unmoved food from a reddish clay pot. On the shoulders of the collective farmer threw an old, wiped dark brown coat, under it is visible a blue linen shirt. On the feet - old broken shoes. Continuing the work on the painting "Reaping" Plastov, let's pay attention to other of its heroes. These are two boys and a girl, guys 10-12 years old. Maybe it's my grandfather with my grandchildren. The girl closest to us is sitting. Her head was tied with a white cotton handkerchief, from under which two pigtails, touching down on a thin neck, touchingly touch. The forehead covers the light biloba that has burnt out in the sun. A dark blouse, a red dress, stockings on legs tucked under her legs and a cherry-colored boots - that's the whole unthinkable outfit of her granddaughter. In her hand is a spoon. Slanting slightly toward the pot, she eats a lean peasant pottage, which during the war years was a real treat. Behind her sits her brother - a red-haired wiry lad. His head had not touched a scissors for a long time-either there was no time, and maybe no one to bring his head in order. And again I remember: the war is, and little is the mother of the children ... The little boy is also focused on food, like his relatives. But the third of the children crouched down to a clay pitcher and eagerly drinks water or milk. He is wearing a white shirt, and wearing dark trousers. It seems that he was tired and tired, and he was thirsty, not even for food! The fifth hero of the picture - a common favorite, funny doggie. He looks intently at the diners, eagerly awaiting when his turn comes.

Background pictures

The painting "Harvest" of Plastov is a story about the dramatic battle for the harvest of those who remained behind in the war years and helped to forge the victory with all their might, providing the front and the civilians with the most important thing - bread. That's why the old man had to go to his advanced years, and the children, who would run to school, take on the forks and rakes, scythes and sickles, that their adult sons, fathers and brothers, and even mothers, went to war - to defend the Motherland. So they plow, sow, mow, work, getting out of the way, those who stayed. To the left of the diners there is a large freshly cut skard, on which are plaited scythes, rakes and other agricultural equipment. In the background extends an endless field and the same huge stacks. And above all this is a gray, pre-threatening sky. Apparently, because of bad weather, my grandfather and grandchildren hurried to harvest. That's why the painting "Harvest" is called. Warm gold tones give it a special flavor. From the canvas, he has a deep sincere love for people and for the Motherland.
