Pencil sketches - the first step to mastering the fine arts

Any creative work begins with mastering the basics of an interesting art form. So, for playing a musical instrument you need to learn the notes and lose a lot of sketches. Before you start to dance well, it is advisable to prepare your body with physical exercises. Fine art is built on the acquisition of the ability to transfer the surrounding world to the plane. It can be paper, canvas, woodwork, metal, etc. The first step in mastering drawing can be sketching with a pencil on paper.

Preparation for work

The very concept of a sketch implies an image of something without drawing all the details. In this case, the drawing itself must convey the essence, carry the information. Some parts can be selected.

Before you start to draw with a pencil, you need to pick it up by the level of rigidity. There are three main types:

  • Hard (TV, HB) - used for light, barely noticeable lines.
  • Medium softness (TM) - they emphasize more prominent and clear elements.
  • Soft pencils (M, B, 2B, 4B) - well suited for retouching (highlighting the darkest places and pronounced details).

The second thing to consider when working on sketches and sketches is paper. A very smooth, almost glossy structure will make it difficult to apply the pencil lead particles, and the heavily rough, on the contrary, will make the job look like embossing. If it's still hard to determine by eye, then you can try to draw a few strokes from the edge, selecting the optimal paper for yourself.

Sketches in pencil should not take much time. On average this is 5-7 minutes. It's better to start with simple elements. It can be a branch of a tree, an uncomplicated flower, an object of an interior. The goal is to convey the recognizability and meaning of the painted object in several strokes. Do not worry if you do not get it right away. Before the work will be brought to automatism, there will be enough time, but it's worth it. And if the talent is added to zeal, the result can exceed all expectations.

Basic requirements for work on drafts

To begin sketching with a pencil, you need this sequence:

  1. Select the angle, determine the location on the sheet, note the size.
  2. Having defined all parameters, it is necessary to outline the displayed object in several strokes.
  3. By hatching, emphasize darker places (this may be a shadow or a depression).
  4. If the object is in motion, try to indicate the direction.
  5. To give realism, you can draw a separate detail, for example, the eyes, the petal of the flower, the most prominent part of the object.
  6. The strokes are applied quickly and clearly. It is not allowed to traverse, but you can superimpose new lines on top of those already applied.

Doing sketches with a pencil, at first you can use an eraser, in the future it should be deleted (a characteristic feature of sketches and sketches is the lack of the possibility of mashing).

Do not be afraid of inaccuracies in proportions, drawing superfluous lines - everything comes with experience. With each subsequent work, the errors will decrease, the lines will become clearer. This is called "stuffing your hand". But even the first works, made with an uncertain hand, can come in handy.

Sketches as a basis for future paintings

Made at different times and different places sketches in pencil, despite the primitiveness and apparent incompleteness, can serve to create a full-fledged picture. For example, from the sketches of various colors made, a good still life can turn out. When examining sketches of flying birds, tree branches, memory will restore the missing elements of the surrounding nature, which will create a landscape.

Each sketch carries a piece of life, a small moment, transferred to a sheet of paper. Completed in a short period of time, it can become a memory on the future canvas for years to come.

Positive aspects of work

If you often draw sketches in pencil drawings, you develop your own technique, accuracy of movements, confidence in the result. With each subsequent sketch, the ability to see the main thing improves, paying no attention to the secondary details. The outlook widens, observation is developed, visual memory develops.

Pencil sketches can be made by people of different ages, regardless of the type of activity and place of residence, the level of prosperity and the position in society. This requires only a desire and desire to achieve results, and a pencil and a piece of paper will be found for everyone.
