Perhaps, for all the millennia of existence in the arsenal of mankind of fine art, nothing newer, revolutionary has emerged. Impressionism is in any modern art canvas. It can be clearly seen in the frames of the famous master's film, and among the glossy ladies magazine. He penetrated into music and books. But it was different once.

The Origins of Impressionism

In 1901 in France, in the cave of Kombarel, accidentally found rock paintings, the youngest of which was 15 000 years old. And this was the first impressionism in painting. Because the primitive artist did not set out to read the viewer's moral. He simply drew the life that surrounded him.

And then this method was forgotten for many, many years. Mankind has invented other verbal means of communication. And the transmission of emotions by visual method ceased to be topical for him.

In something to the impressionism were close to the ancient Romans. But part of their efforts fell ashes. And wherever Vesuvius did not reach, the barbarians came.

Painting is preserved, but it began to illustrate texts, messages, messages, knowledge. It ceased to be a feeling. It became a parable, an explanation, a story. Look at the tapestry from Bayeux. He is beautiful and priceless. But this is not a picture. It's seventy meters of linen comics.

Slowly and majestically developed painting in the world for thousands of years. There were new colors and techniques. Artists have learned the importance of perspective and the power of the impact of a colorful painted message on the human mind. Painting became an academic science and acquired all the features of monumental art. She became unwieldy, prim and pathetic. At the same time honed and unshakable, as a canonical religious postulate.

The source of the plots for the paintings were religious parables, literature, staging genre scenes. The smears were small, inconspicuous. Lesserization was introduced into the rank of dogma. And the art of drawing promised in the foreseeable future to become stale, like a primitive forest.

Life changed, technology developed rapidly, and only artists continued to stamp stiff portraits and sketched sketches of country parks. This state of affairs suited not everyone. But the inertia of the consciousness of society was overcome with difficulty at all times.

However, in the yard there was already a 19th century, which had long since crossed its second half. The processes in the socium that took place before the century, now occurred in front of one generation. Industry, medicine, economics, literature, society itself developed rapidly. Impressionism in painting, like paintings, has an exact dating of its birth - 1863 year. And his appearance was not without curiosities.

The center of world art then, of course, was Paris. It annually held large Paris salons - world exhibitions and sales of paintings. The jury, who selected works for the salons, was mired in small internal intrigues, worthless squabbles and stubbornly oriented toward the senile tastes of the then academies. As a result, the exhibition did not include new, bright artists in the salon, whose talent did not correspond to the stiff academic dogmas. During the selection of exhibitors in 1863, more than 60% of applications were rejected. These are thousands of painters. A scandal was brewing.

And the scandal broke out. Impossibility to exhibit was deprived of means of subsistence and blocked access to a wide audience for a huge number of artists. Among them are names that are now known to the whole world: Monet and Manet, Renoir and Pissarro.

It's clear that this did not suit them. And there was a big noise in the press. It came to the point that on April 20, 1893, the Paris Salon was visited by Napoleon III and, in addition to the exposition, purposefully inspected a part of the rejected works. And I did not find anything reprehensible in them. And even made this statement in the press. Therefore, in parallel to the great Paris Salon, an alternative exhibition of paintings opened with works rejected by the jury of the salon. In history, it came under the name "Exhibition of the rejected".

So, April 20, 1863 can be considered the birthday of all modern art. Art, which has become independent of literature, music and religion. Moreover: painting itself began to dictate its terms to writers and composers, first getting rid of subordinate roles.

Representatives of impressionism

When we talk about impressionism, we mean, first and foremost, impressionism in painting. Its representatives are numerous and multifaceted. Suffice it to say the most famous: Degas, Renoir, Manet, Monet, Pissarro, Cezanne, Morisot, Lepic, Legros, Gauguin, Renoir, Tilo, Foren and many, many others. Impressionists for the first time set the task to catch not just a static picture of life, but to snatch a feeling, emotion, inner experience. It was a momentary cut, a speedy picture of the world of the inner, emotional world.

Hence the new contrasts and colors, hitherto not used in painting. Hence, large, daring strokes and the constant search for new forms. There is no legibility and clarity. The picture is blurred and fleeting as a person's mood. This is not history. These are the feelings visible to the eye. Look at the paintings of the Impressionists. They are all a bit torn in mid-sentence, slightly fleeting. These are not pictures. These are sketches, brought to an ingenious perfection.


The emergence of post-impressionism

It was the desire to bring to the fore a feeling, and not a frozen temporary fragment, and was for that time revolutionary, innovative. And then there was only one step to post-impressionism - the flow of art, which brought to the first role not emotion, but patterns. More precisely, the artist's transfer of his inner, personal reality. This is an attempt to tell not about the external world, but about the inner way of how the artist sees the world. This is a painting of perception.

Impressionism and post-impressionism in painting are very close. And the very separation is very conditional. Both currents are close in time, and the authors themselves, often the same ones, as a rule, changed from one manner to another quite freely.

And yet. Look at the works of the Impressionists. A little unnatural color. The world, familiar to us, but at the same time a little fictitious. This is how the artist saw it. He does not give us the nature that is modern to him. He just shows us his soul a little. The soul of Bonnard and Toulouse-Lautrec. Van Gogh and Denis. Gauguin and Sulfur.

Russian Impressionism

The experience of impressionism, which seized the whole world, did not leave Russia aside. Meanwhile, in our country, accustomed to a more measured life, not understanding the fuss and the desire of Paris, Impressionism and could not get rid of academicity. He is like a bird, rvanuvshaya on takeoff, but frozen in the middle of the way into the sky.

Impressionism in Russian painting did not receive the dynamism of the French brush. But he acquired a well-dressed semantic dominant, which made him a bright, somewhat isolated phenomenon in world art.

Impressionism is a feeling expressed in the form of a picture. He does not bring up, he does not demand. He claims.

Impressionism served as a starting point for modernity and expressionism, constructivism and the avant-garde. All modern art, in fact, began its report from the distant April 20, 1863. Painting in Impressionism is an art born in Paris.
