Cynologist Day: Man and Dog

In 1906, in St. Petersburg, for the first time, a nursery of police dog-snoopers was opened , and on its basis a school of trainers was organized. The nursery became a specialized subdivision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

A bit of history

The Day of Cynological Units (otherwise the Day of the Cynologist) has a hundred-year history. Every citizen of Russia who has a dog, consider this holiday also his own, marking on a par with official units and not forgetting about his four-legged friend.

Detective dogs were used in the disclosure of crimes for a long time - with their help, the work of intelligence was provided. The NKVD in the 1920s created the first nursery schools, which train professional dog handlers and bloodhounds for service in the criminal investigation department, border troops, communications routes and other military units.

The professionally trained dogs found work during the WWII military operations: they found wounded soldiers, detonated enemy tanks, were trained to find mines, participated in the pursuit of saboteurs, spies, transported the wounded and cargo.

Now official four-legged bloodhounds are worthy members of internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Their assistance is important for ensuring proper protection of both state and military facilities. Their natural qualities are indispensable for establishing places where any explosive devices are concentrated.

The merits of canine-bloodhounds are appreciated by the Motherland, in their honor there are monuments in Novocherkassk and Novosibirsk. June 21, 2013 was declared an official holiday - Day of the Cynologist of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The training of dogs for service and the use of quadrupeds for service in the troops occurs in the following areas:
