Curved profiles. Characteristics and modern construction technologies

Curved profiles - perhaps the most numerous group among products made by metal rolling. They are manufactured using three main technologies:

• With the help of special stamps;
• With the help of special roll forming equipment;
• By pulling through roller dies.

Advantages

Thanks to modern and high-tech equipment, it is possible to manufacture profiles from various metals and alloys in virtually any given shape, size and section. This requires compliance with the accuracy of dimensions, stiffness, surface quality and saving metal. Curved profiles have one more undeniable advantage - accessibility and simplicity in processing. They can easily be welded, perforated, as well as applying various coatings and paints on them.

Application

The wide use in the construction of thin-walled structures makes products from the curved profile extremely demanded. In addition, they are widely used in other industries - mechanical engineering, the production of household goods, construction, etc.

Curved profiles are produced in two basic versions: in the form of channels and corners. Their basis is a special metal blank made of sheet steel, which is given a given shape with the help of roll forming equipment. One of the most popular in this area is the curved square profile.

At the heart of its great popularity are several undeniable advantages, among them the low weight of such products, their low cost, the simplicity and reliability of the junctions, the minimum number of seams, the aesthetic appearance of metal structures and, not least, insignificant resistance to wind loads.

Strict observance of GOSTs

Curved profiles are produced in accordance with established state standards, approved in February 1995 by a special resolution of the Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation. These standards are simultaneously interstate and apply to the CIS countries. Are not an exception and square profiles. Specially for them the profile bent - GOST 30245 is developed.

Production technology

Square tubes are produced on specialized rolling mills of carbon and low-alloy steels. First, a conventional circular pipe is produced, which then, after compression in the rolls, acquires a square cross-section. Continuity of the process is provided by butt welding between rolls. When defects are detected, they are removed by manual or automatic welding, using special additives and welding materials. The standard length of produced pipes of square section is 6 and 12 meters.

The main area of application of square metal profiles is steel building structures and buildings. In particular, they are used in the construction of industrial buildings, single-storey buildings for industrial purposes, exhibition pavilions, shopping and entertainment complexes, warehouses, sports facilities, etc.
