CT scan of lungs - modern diagnostics

This procedure is performed on equipment called a tomograph. It is based on the use of mechanical and electronic components. The correct name for the diagnosis is "computed tomography of the lungs". The price for such a study is from 4,000 rubles.

The diagnostic process

The procedure of CT of the lungs is carried out in three stages, as well as any other examination using a tomograph:

  1. First, the surface of the object of investigation (in our case, light) is scanned by X-rays, during the scanning process, the beams fall on special sensors, thus transferring information about the object to the instrument.
  2. Data from the sensors are digitized. Next comes a different stage of scanning, from a different angle. Scanning one layer takes no more than 3 seconds.
  3. After processing the information received from all sensors, the computer displays the image of the examined organ. If necessary, the doctor can increase the fragment of interest and study it in detail.

After that, the doctor describes the picture and writes the diagnosis. Using CT of the lungs, tuberculosis, inflammation and lung cancer can be identified (in some cases).

The procedure itself lasts no more than 5-10 minutes, the patient at this time lies horizontally and does not experience any discomfort or pain.

Today there are two types of tomography of the lungs:

  1. Detection of cracks, septa, vessels and bronchi, which allows us to draw conclusions about the problems in these segments - the so-called "pulmonary regimen."
  2. The mode of studying the mediastinal lungs and those organs that are located behind them makes it possible to better see the trachea, lymph nodes, aorta and heart.

Magnetic resonance imaging

In addition to CT of the lungs, MRI can also be prescribed. It is important to know that people who have undergone surgery in the heart area with the installation of additional implants, the MRI procedure is prohibited because of the possible dislocation of the metal parts under the influence of the magnetic field (based on it and a survey is conducted).

MRI does not cause pain and discomfort, and the procedure does not involve irradiation, since it is based on magnetic effects on the human body.

The procedure of MRI of the lungs allows to study in detail all structural changes not only in organs but also in tissues due to a qualitative detailed image. With this study, you can get a complete "picture" of the state of fluid, lymphoid tissue and neoplasms in the lungs. The latter is done by introducing contrast.

A similar examination is prescribed when irradiation of a person is not recommended or prohibited, for example, it can be pregnancy, child age or repeat procedure, when it is necessary to minimize the dose of radiation exposure.

As advantages of MRI before CT of lungs, it can be noted not only a reduction in the radiation dose, but also the possibility of multifaceted image reconstruction. In addition, according to MRI data, an experienced specialist can easily distinguish the usual inflammatory processes in the lungs from other tissue lesions.
