Concept of power. Types and functions

The notion of power has become firmly embedded in the public consciousness. It is regarded as the main force that ensures the regulation of various processes and relationships in groups of different numbers. Due to the presence of power structures, the society maintains integrity and unity.

Definitions of power

Different branches of knowledge differently define the notion of power, which proves the complexity and ambiguity of the content of this term. Some see power as an instrument that allows one to control someone or something (a person or a state), others speak of it as an exclusive right to rule the country. The behavioral direction of psychology looks at the concept of power as a special kind of behavior, in which one allows the other to rule over oneself. Teleology treats the concept of power very broadly, speaking not only about its manifestation in relations between people or in the structure of the state. Teleological concepts of power affect the sphere of human interaction with the surrounding world (human power over nature).

Types of power

There are several approaches that determine the types of power. Depending on the main feature, which distinguishes, several classifications are distinguished.

By the way of interaction, the power can be:

  • Totalitarian;
  • Democratic;
  • Authoritarian;
  • Liberal.

The functions of the relevant bodies are:

  • Legislative;
  • Executive;
  • judicial branch.

Depending on the entities that implement it:

  • Family;
  • Army;
  • Trade union;
  • Party;
  • State.

There are several more classifications, but they are used quite rarely. Most often, the concept and types of power are closely related to its functions.

Structure

In our state it is customary to talk about the three branches of power: legislative, executive and judicial. They exist in parallel, but in close relationship.

The concept and types of legislative bodies

Legislative power is traditionally one of the types of state power that ensures the functioning of democracy. Usually consists of elected representatives, formally equal to each other. Legislative power is represented by Parliament (Federal Assembly). The Parliament includes two chambers. One of them is the State Duma, the second is the Federation Council.

Concept and types of executive bodies

The executive power organizes the implementation of the provisions of the main state document. It is a well-coordinated system of departments and organizations that are subordinate to a strict hierarchy and have the authority to manage the affairs of the state. It is an independent and independent branch of power. Includes:

  • The government of the country.
  • Regional governments.
  • Ministry of various industries.
  • Management of various public services.
  • Federal agencies, committees, administrations, colleges, services.
  • State funds and corporations.
  • Territorial administrations, committees, services.
  • Cadastral institutions.

Concept and types of judicial authorities

The judiciary is an independent system exercising the powers conferred upon it by the state through the appropriate type of judicial procedure. All organizations and courts of various values are linked together, and are the judicial power in our country.

There are three types of legal proceedings:

  • Civilian;
  • Administrative;
  • Criminal.

The bodies of the judiciary include:

  • Superior Court of Arbitration.
  • Constitutional Court.
  • Supreme courts.
  • All regional courts.

The main purpose of the judiciary is to administer justice within its powers through the judicial system.
