Coated dachshund: character, description and features of food. Reviews of dog breeders

A hunting dog comes from the foothills of Germany, where this breed was bred for hunting badgers. Currently, there are three types of tax: dwarf, standard and rabbit.

From the history of the breed

Hunters are well aware that in order for a dog to work effectively in any weather, it is necessary that its coat is dense and thick, with undercoat, covering hair - hard and not skipping moisture. This will protect the animal from serious injuries when working in a dense bush or understory.

It was these goals that were pursued when a coarse dachshund was displayed. The first information about the experiments with their breeding is referred to in 1797. In the second half of the XIX century, there were already three known varieties, characterized by a fur coat, including a coarse dachshund.

For its deducing to smooth-haired individuals, blood was added to the breeds of dogs with tough hair, including terriers: Scotch terrier, dandy-dinmont, fox terrier and some others. Possible participation in the formation of breed and schnauzer. The problem was that the breeders wanted to leave the typical structure of the classic dachshund, its hunting qualities, flair, courage, anger to the beast, and the voice unchanged without changes.

Therefore, fixing this type of fee required a lot of effort and time on the part of dog lovers and professional breeders

The Germans divided the type of wool into a variety in 1915, after which each of them is bred independently.

Coat-haired dachshund in Russia

On the territory of the Soviet Union and Russia, the hairless dachshunds first appeared in 1946. At the international exhibition in 1947 already registered four individuals. But this species has not become very popular among Russian hunters, therefore, working dogs with field diplomas, listed in the pedigree book, are quite small. Therefore, it is by no means always purebred that the dachshund is purchased on the market. A breeding nursery for these animals can give you a guarantee that you are buying a purebred and healthy dog.

Appearance

Probably, it is not necessary to say that all taxes are externally very amusing, but the dachshund is perhaps the leader in the nomination "the most unusual appearance" among all types of dachshunds. To the crooked legs and the stretched body adds unusual wool. In these dogs, it is straight, thick, stiff, no more than three centimeters long. It fits snugly against the body. Well-developed undercoat. On the muzzle bristly hard hair form a thick mustache, beard and eyebrows.

The unusual structure of the wool makes it virtually invulnerable to dirt, it justifies itself in our climate during walks in the winter. Care for her is simple. It consists in the regular combing of the hair with a comb or a brush. Also, a dog needs trimming. If you can not do this yourself, contact a specialist, otherwise the animal will suffer.

A coarse dachshund can be of different colors, mostly monochrome or bicolour, in addition, there are tiger, marble and spotted colors. The most valuable is a dark red.

Height 22-27 cm, weight 7-9 kg.

Food

Experienced cynologists and dog breeders recommend combining dry food with natural nutrition. You can feed as one type of food, and mixing natural food with dry or canned food of high quality.

From natural products, adult dachshunds, puppies after three months should receive cottage cheese, lean meat, kefir, vegetable proteins. Categorically contraindicated dachshund products from your table.

The main rule of feeding these dogs is not to overfeed. Excess weight and obesity can seriously affect the health of your pet. Up to four months, it is advisable to feed the puppy no more than four times a day. Then until six months - no more than three times. From six months to the end of life - no more than twice a day.

Rabbit Dachshund (coarse-wool)

This species differs from its "relatives" in the first place in miniature sizes. Its growth does not exceed 15 cm, weight not more than 3.5 kg.

This is a dachshund with a long body and short legs. Her body is elastic and muscular, the skeleton is powerful.

The head of the rabbit dachshund, in spite of the elongation, is not too pointed to the nose. In relation to the body it is quite massive. Ears hanging, snugly close to the cheekbones, they are elongated, but not too much. Eyes are medium in size, painted in different shades of brown, very rare, but there are dogs with blue eyes. The coat is tough enough. It looks like a wire. To the body is snug against the entire length, it has an undercoat.
