Civil aviation pilots: training, occupation and responsibilities

Pilots of civil aviation are specialists who have devoted themselves entirely to living in heaven. These are fearless people who have thrown out a challenge to fate and have passed many trials. Therefore, anyone who dreams of such a profession, should realize that his life will become as difficult and thorny.

And if such a thing does not scare, then let's talk about how to become a pilot of civil aviation in Russia. Where should I go for training? How long will it take, and then how can I find work?

The beginning of the long journey

First of all, one should be aware of the fact that it will take quite a long time to study as a civil aviation pilot. After all, unlike a car, controlling an aircraft requires extensive knowledge: from its structure and ending with the characteristics of flights in bad weather.

Therefore, you should prepare for the fact that you will have to study the "tons" of educational material. In this case, not just learn all the information, but be able to use it competently during flights. Especially if in the future you have plans to get a job in a commercial structure.

Flight licenses

To date, all civil aviation pilots are divided into three large categories. This is due to a strict licensing system, which absolutely all pilots are required to pass through. It is she who subsequently determines what kind of winged vehicles a person can control.

So, there are the following types of licenses :

  1. PPL or private pilot. Possession of this document grants the right to operate small aircraft not intended for freight traffic. Simply put, for your own pleasure a person can fly as much as he likes, but no one will take it to work.
  2. CPL or commercial pilot. This type of license allows a person to deliver small loads, make tourist overflights and to raise skydivers into the sky.
  3. ATPL or line pilot. What can I say, this is the highest category of pilots, allowing you to manage the multi-ton passenger airliners.

How to become a pilot of civil aviation

Is it worth for a person to decide to embark on this path, as he immediately has a choice: to submit documents to the flight school or to be limited to aviation school? Strangely enough, but its pros and cons are in both versions, so let's look at them separately.

Let's start with flying schools. The quality of education here is higher, since much more time is allocated for the training of pilots. In addition, students are taught not only piloting, but also other disciplines - physics, advanced mathematics and law. This allows you to bring up fully developed pilots able to perform their duties qualitatively.

As for cons, flight schools and academies conduct recruiting based on the state order. This leads to the fact that 10-12 applicants apply for one place. In addition, many civil aviation pilots have been called that the technical base of our schools is significantly outdated. Because of this, their graduates have to take additional courses in order to understand the features of piloting new aircraft.

But everyone can enter the flight school. Here, more important is whether the person has money for training. The quality of education here is slightly lower, although it largely depends on the school itself and what teachers work there. At the same time, it is worth noting that it is much easier to get a PPL certificate in an air school, because here you can take extra-hour classes.

Transition from one category to another

Both men and women-pilots of civil aviation in Russia hand over the same standards for obtaining a license. For each type of document, they are different, so let's look at them:

  1. A PPL type certificate can be obtained by candidates who have reached the age of 16. To do this, they need to learn 155 hours of theoretical material, and also fly 47 hours on an airplane such as Cessna 172. On average, training in this category takes from several months to one year, depending on the intensity of the classes and the type of school.
  2. A certificate of the CPL type can be obtained by candidates who have reached the age of 18. To do this, they need to have a PPL-type license or go through this course from scratch. In addition, they will have to study more than 600 hours of theory, and also fly 152 hours on a single-engine aircraft. And at the end of training, to close another 30 hours of flight on the navigation simulator and 12 hours - on a multi-engine airplane.
  3. The ATPL certificate is a more sophisticated version of the CPL license. That is, it will be necessary to learn everything that was done in the previous categories, only with a deepening into practice. In addition, it will be necessary to work out simulations of flights on passenger and cargo airliners.

Passage of medical commission

All pilots of civil aviation undergo a strict medical check. At the same time, it is conducted both before and after the beginning of the training. Also, the medical commission will have to pass every year after the job placement, otherwise the pilot will simply not be allowed to take off.

The difficulty lies in the fact that any flaw or illness can be the reason for a negative conclusion. If we talk about commercial flights, then doctors can prohibit departures, even because the person does not have a couple of teeth. This is due to the fact that such a defect distorts speech, and this, in turn, makes it difficult to communicate with the dispatcher of the aircraft tower.

Finding the right job

In search of work, of course, all pilots of civil aviation in Russia are based on what kind of license they have. So, in the presence of CPL, you should try to get a job in a small airline that provides tourist services. Alternatively, it is possible to consider vacancies for instructors in flight schools, but then you will have to complete additional courses.

Wherever more prospects open up to those who own the ATPL license. In this case, it is likely that a large airline itself will offer you a job. That's just one thing, but you'll probably have to enroll in special courses that allow you to master the management of the airliner.

The trouble is that their cost is quite high. Therefore, it is necessary to conclude a special agreement, according to which the pilot will deduct a part of his salary in order to pay off the debt to the airline. In addition, initially a beginner is allowed only to the position of the 2nd pilot, since the captain's place requires the experience of flying on large aircraft (over 1,5 thousand hours).

The duties of a civil aviation pilot

Airlines often disagree about the intricacies of domestic politics. However, there is something that unites them all - the rigidity of the requirements in relation to their pilots. After all, it depends not only on the safety of the aircraft, but also on the lives of its passengers.

Therefore, all pilots are required to perform the following five items:

  1. Professionally fly the plane.
  2. Always follow the safety rules.
  3. In advance to learn the summaries of meteorological services.
  4. Check the condition of the ship before the flight.
  5. Obediently use commands and hints from the air traffic controller.

Female pilots of civil aviation in Russia

Most people are used to the fact that the pilot is a man. Therefore, for them, a female pilot of civil aviation - this is something out of the ordinary. However, the reality is that both men and women can control the airplane. But for some reason even today they are allowed to join large airliners with caution. Nevertheless, in Russia there are examples of women who run such giants.

So, Olga Kirsanova has been piloting a passenger airplane weighing more than 100 tons for several years. She is sure that everyone can get a place in the cockpit of a winged car - the main thing is to want it with all your heart. It is true that Olga herself had to sweat hard to achieve her position, since the management of her airline could not decide for a long time for this appointment.
