Checking the passport for validity: how not to get caught "on the hook" by intruders

Very often during the conclusion of various kinds of transactions (buying or selling or renting an apartment, lending money, selling or buying goods), it becomes necessary to confirm the authenticity of the documents. And then the question arises as to how the passport is actually checked for validity. What should I pay attention to, what are the important points to consider?

1. It consists in determining the validity of the document and verifying the compliance of the passport form with the current approved form.
2. Presence of requisites, as well as the presence of stamps and seals.
3. Determination of the passport's identity to the bearer.
4. Careful examination of the document to identify signs of forgery.

First of all, it is necessary to check the validity period of the document, the presence of signatures of all officials and necessary photos of the owner. The date of birth of the bearer, indicated in the passport, must correspond to his age, determined by appearance. It is also important to check records of the region where the document was issued and their correspondence to the place of residence of the bearer at that time. If there is any doubt, you can compare the passport data with other documents (birth certificate, military ticket , etc.).

Expert assessments indicate that the number of cases of forging documents, in particular passports, has recently increased. Most often, scammers change the third page, where the owner's photo is located, and stamp impressions about registration.

The third page is forged in several ways:

1. Cut out a photo and paste a new one into its place, re-laminate.
2. Raise the layer of protective coating, change the photo and apply another layer on top.
3. Remove the laminate, photo and surface layer of paper. Then imitated images of the blank, setting data are applied to the sheet and re-covered with a protective film.
4. Paste a new page on the photo and setting data with fictitious information, laminate.
5. "Expand" the passport, remove the sheet with the third page and "sew" a new, counterfeit.

Passport validation: the signs of document forgery

The presence of at least one of the following signs may indicate that the document is not genuine:

• The color or size of the third page is different from the rest;
• There are no watermarks on one of the pages (more often on the third);
• Smeared images of props with granular structure;
• There is no word "RUSSIA" on the passport blank and other fibers that are visible in the ultraviolet;
• There are folds and / or blisters on the laminate layer;
• Dullness of protective coating, peeling, presence of contaminants;
• Presence of two layers of laminate, the same number of photographs;
• There are folds on the cover and / or on one of the flyleafs of the document;
• There are semantic or spelling errors ;
• The emblem is mirrored;
• There are signs of electrophotography and / or ink-jet printing ;
• There are no separate parts of signs and / or their displacement, there is uneven coloring and / or a simplified image of signs;
• The parallelism and radiality of the lines, unevenly placed text, etc. are broken.
