Changes in language as a change of consciousness, or indifferent - this is ...
This short article is devoted to changes in the language that affects the change in the consciousness of not only one person, but the people as a whole. What is this change, by whom are they introduced and for what? Let's start with a little reasoning and sort out a few words for example, for example, we learn that indifferent is ...
Interrelation of language and consciousness
Scientists have long proven that language and consciousness are interrelated. This is absolutely logical for us and does not require clarification. We communicate through the language and understand each other. Of course, we can not share the views of other people (this is another matter), but the process of understanding ourselves as awareness of the position of another individual is clear to us. The language worked out, in fact, in order to express the idea and to deliver it to the interlocutor when transmitting, which in turn uses the same sign and sound systems of the language, launching instantaneous thought activity for understanding and awareness.
Consequently, if for any reason the consciousness of people changes (the advent of a new era, the rapid development of society or the seizure of territory and the annexation of it and the population to the predatory), then this necessarily finds its reflection in the language. New borrowed words are emerging, obsolete, or the meaning of words changes completely. But it works and vice versa: changes in language also affect the change of consciousness. Let's look at our example.
Indifferent is ...
Unfortunately, you often hear in our time about people's indifference. It is condemned and not welcomed. After all, such people in difficult times may not help, because they do not care. This is understandable, because what is the meaning of the word "indifferent"? This is a person who is cold, does not show interest and interest (to his neighbor or situation), he does not care about everything that is happening in the world around him. This description of a completely apathetic and passive personality (completely logical, if it is also always under stressful conditions). For example, how do you understand the expression: "An indifferent person does not admire happiness and does not lose heart in misfortune"? Remember the sensations. Most likely, you remembered now the word "indifferent".
Now let's pay attention to the fact that when this word entered our language from Church Slavonic, its meaning was completely opposite. In the XII-XIII centuries there was the following interpretation of this word. Indifferent is an equivocal, a person with an equal soul. In other words, like-minded person whose soul, by accumulating experience and passing lessons in this life, is close and equal to another soul (or souls).
In the XVIII century, the word "indifference" was understood as internal firmness and steadfastness, constancy and spiritual stability of a person, his core. The spirit of such a person will not anger the dangers and anxieties, for he knows that everything that is happening is rewarded according to merit, and will cope with difficulties. Indifferent - it's "a calm spirit for all who look." Now with this value, once again read the expression: "an indifferent person does not admire happiness and does not lose heart in misfortune." Understanding and feeling are different, are not they ?!
In this sense of the word, I would like to be surrounded by indifferent people, not indifferent people.
There are a lot of such words. For example, "freak." Earlier designated a very worthy and strong man, born in the family first (that is, the first-born). It was believed that he came to the family from the very God of the Family. From this the word went: the soul of his U-Rod was, so being a monster was respectful, respectful and very responsible. Then the meaning of the word was distorted. This happened earlier and is happening nowadays with a huge number of words. Where does this come from, to whom is it profitable? It is necessary to think that if the link between language and consciousness is very strong, then those who try to change the language affect the change in the consciousness of the person, the people, the masses ... However, we leave this question open. If this is really interesting, you can turn to the literature.
Finally, we suggest that you, as active users of native and foreign languages, think about what and what exactly you are saying, and (at least sometimes) be interested in the history of your native speech with the goal of self-development and a deeper understanding of yourself.
