Cat's fluke: ways of infection, symptoms and methods of treatment

Cat's fluke is a fairly common parasite, which is the causative agent of the opisthorchiasis. This disease is characterized by a lesion of the gallbladder, its ducts and pancreas.

Cat's fluke: ways of infection and life cycle

This parasite has a rather complex development cycle. The main source is a sick animal or a person. Eggs flukes are excreted together with feces and fall into the water. Here they are swallowed by snails, which are the first intermediate hosts. Here their reproduction goes right up to the development of cerakaria, which leave the digestive system of the cochlea and then enter the body of carp fish - crucian, roach, tench, carp, etc.

To penetrate into a healthy organism, larvae can, together with improperly prepared meat of fish. The cat's fluke affects not only the person, but also dogs, cats and other animals. The larvae enter the digestive system of the final host. In the duodenum, their membrane dissolves, after which it migrates into the gallbladder and pancreatic ducts. After a month the body reaches sexual maturity, after which the laying and excretion of eggs begins. A cat's fluke can live in the body for up to 25 years. Symptoms sharply increase with repeated invasions.

Dentistry of the cat: symptoms and course of the disease

Symptoms of the disease can be different - it all depends on the duration of infection, the number of repeated invasions, the characteristics of the host organism. It is accepted to distinguish between two forms - acute and chronic.

Acute opisthorchiasis is a rather serious disease, the first signs of which can appear only a few weeks after the penetration of the parasite. A person has a fever, lumps and joint pain, weakness and dizziness. Then the pain begins in the right upper quadrant and the area of the stomach. Since the digestive system is affected , the symptoms are corresponding - a decrease in appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive formation of gases. Later on, small ulcers appear on the inner walls of the stomach and intestine. With a strong immune response to the parasite, allergic manifestations also develop - rash, hives and asthmatic bronchitis.

Chronic damage to the body can last for years, and in some cases, throughout life. It is manifested by regular bouts of pain on the right side, slow pathological disorders in the digestive system - chronic hepatitis, cholecystitis and pancreatitis.

Cat's fluke: treatment and diagnosis

The final diagnosis can be made based on the results of fecal and blood tests. The most accurate method is a laboratory blood test for the presence of specific antibodies to parasite metabolism products.

Treatment of opisthorchiasis should be comprehensive. To begin with, it is necessary to eliminate all the symptoms, to relieve the condition of a person and to normalize the work of the organism. For this purpose, apply:

  • Antihistamines - for relief of allergic reactions;
  • Painkillers;
  • Cholagogue means for facilitating bile extraction and elimination of its stagnation;
  • Digestive enzymes;
  • Probiotics;
  • Antibiotics in the presence of concomitant infectious diseases (the course is short - only 5 days);
  • A special diet with a limited amount of fat is also mandatory;

Further, the doctor prescribes a special anthelmintic preparation, which affects the permeability of the membranes for calcium. This leads to spasm of the muscles, as a result of which the parasites are detached from the walls and are removed from the body. Unfortunately, such drugs can cause a number of rather dangerous side effects, so their reception should occur only in a stationary environment.

The final stage of therapy is a complete restoration of the body's functions, including the normal functioning of the liver and pancreas.
