Bugulma Airport: photo, history

The year 1933 is considered to be the year of the founding of the Bugulma airport. This year it was decided to create an air line within Tatarstan. For this purpose, the territory for the construction of an airfield complex was prepared. In August this year, the first flight was carried out.

The rapid development of the airport begins in the 1950s. In 1953, the reception of postal aircraft began, and the Bugulma aviation enterprise was created, and buildings for the airport personnel were built. In 1955 began the service of passenger transportation.

In the 1960s, the infrastructure continued to develop. In 1972, the Yak-40 aircraft began to take over. In 1980-1990-ies, the old and the construction of a new runway was reconstructed. In 2010, a new passenger terminal was put into operation, and since 2011 the Bugulma airport started servicing international flights.

Infrastructure

The airport has one passenger terminal. The "air gates" of the city of Bugulma have a developed modern infrastructure. The capacity of the new terminal building is about 50 passengers per hour. There is also a business hall, various cafes, recreation areas for air passengers, a 24-hour mother and child room, a medical unit, ATMs. In each room of the terminal there is Wi-Fi. On the territory of the air terminal there is a hotel and a 24-hour paid parking.

Runways

To date, Bugulma airport has two runways. Only one of them is operated - 01L / 19R - with asphalt concrete coating. Its dimensions are 2000 × 42 m. Its original length was 1.6 km, but in 2005 it was elongated and the width increased by 2 meters.

Southeast of the existing strip is the second, the size of which is 2870 × 45 m. Construction began in 1987, but due to inadequate financing this project was suspended. Initially, it was built to receive heavy aircraft having a takeoff weight of more than 50 tons. In the 1990s, incidents occurred when flight crews mistakenly landed on an unfinished runway. After that, white crosses were put on the strip, which indicate that the runway is not working.

Aircraft accidents

In the history of Bugulma airport's existence, there were two aviation accidents.

The first occurred in March 1986, when an An-24 aircraft crashed near the airfield. The aircraft belonged to Bykovsky JSC and followed from Moscow to Bugulma. The flight crew decided to make a call with a right turn at a landing course of 192 degrees. Before the entrance to the glide path, almost immediately after the flaps were released, the engine screw on the left side passed spontaneously into the fouling mode. As a result, the aircraft tilted to the left and began to turn, resulting in a stall. The plane fell 8 km from the strip. 38 people (4 of them were crew members) died on the spot. The official version of the crash is spontaneous flukyirovanie, turning off the engine on the left, as well as a mistake pilots.

The second aviation accident occurred in 1991, when the An-24 aircraft crashed in 802 meters from the runway. The plane was flying from Nizhnevartovsk to Bugulma. Landing was carried out at night. The anti-icing system was not activated by the crew, as a result of this, the wings and the stabilizer were covered with a 15-mm layer of ice. The crash occurred when you left the second lap when the airliner entered the stalling mode. 41 people (4 of them were crew members) died on the spot.

Thus, Bugulma airport is one of the important air transportation hubs not only in Tatarstan, but also in the Volga region. Currently, he manages the services of one airline that operates flights primarily in Russia. It has a modern developed infrastructure. For the whole history of the airport's existence there were two air accidents.
