Autumn flowers helichrysum: growing from seeds

In the autumn cold weather, the only flowers that delight the eye with their bright colors are dried flowers. In the people they are known as immortals, while their scientific name is Helichrysum. Cultivation of seeds of this plant by horticulturists is carried out, as a rule, in large-flowered form. The flowers were given their name due to the shape of the inflorescences and the bright color, since it is literally translated from Greek as "golden sun". And people call their immortelle only because in the dried state they keep their color and shape for a long time. Now the most common are low-growth types of dried flowers Helichrysum. Cultivation of seeds of these immortellers is made with the purpose of the formation of all kinds of artistic compositions, as well as landscaping of curbs and flower beds. Such popularity can be explained by the fact that, despite a small growth of up to 30 cm, bright inflorescences have a rather large diameter reaching 2 cm, and the flowering itself lasts until September.

Origin and description

Australia is considered the birthplace of the colors of helichrysum. Cultivation of them in Europe was started after the importation of seeds from this country. Despite the fact that they are a perennial plant, only one-year varieties are grown in our climate. The ribbed stalk of helichrysum is 120 cm high and branched in its upper part. Inflorescences of inflorescence in diameter reach 7 cm, and narrow leaves are colored dark green. Around the inflorescences of the plant are dry petals, which with their edges bend into the inner part. As for the color palette, it is characterized by a wide variety. Maturation of seeds of dried flowers occurs in August.

Cultivation of helichrysomes

Now a few words directly about the multiplication of the colors of helichrysum. Cultivation from seeds begins with their sowing in late March or early April in a greenhouse. In less than a week they should ascend, and already in half a month the plant is dived. In the second half of May, the seedlings can be transferred to a permanent place in open soil. When planting it is very important not to damage the root system of dried flowers, so it must be done very carefully. The seedlings should be about 30 cm apart. If the weather is hot, it is recommended to create a shadow for each of them. At the very end of the planting, it is necessary to water the helichrysum abundantly. Growing seedlings from seedlings is very widespread, because in this case the first flowers on it will appear in July. Immortelle can also be planted directly in open soil. This is done in the second half of April. In this case, when emergence emerges, they are thinned out with a hive. This method is considered more simple, but the plant will bloom only in late August.

Care for the immortelle

The plant does not need much attention. Helichrysum, whose photo is given in the article, is very resistant to both cold and drought. Most of all this plant is suitable for fertile soil without excess moisture. When caring for an immortelle, remember that he loves a bright light. During the summer it is necessary several times to perform cutting, as well as fertilizing the plant with the help of mullein. As a result, beautiful flowers grow, which in cold weather are used for spectacular and vivid compositions.
