Decades of godlessness have led to the fact that even those Russians who consider themselves Orthodox Christians, poorly know the Holy Scripture, not to mention the works of outstanding theologians of the past. As a consequence, they have a lot of questions, the answers to which to find without special knowledge is extremely difficult. Childhood

The future archimandrite Iannuarius Ivliev was born in 1943 in Vologda. His family consisted of ordinary Soviet employees. When Dima was 7 years old, his mother died. She, like Yakov Ivliev's husband, was an ardent communist, far from the church. The future archimandrite did not receive Christian upbringing. But later he always noted that it was in the family and school that he was vaccinated with the basic moral principles penetrated into the blood and the flesh of Russian culture from Orthodoxy.

In adolescence, Dmitry's abilities for natural sciences and mathematics were updated. Therefore, no one was surprised by his decision to choose the profession of a scientist-physicist.

Study and work in the university

In the early 60-ies a young man entered the Leningrad University at the Faculty of Physics. In parallel, he attended the classical department of the philological faculty, where he listened to the lectures of the famous professor OI I. Dovatur. After graduating from a prestigious university in 1966, Dmitri Yakovlevich Ivliev entered post-graduate school. Until 1975 he worked at the Leningrad State University as a research fellow and was engaged in research in the physics of near-Earth space.

Conversion

While studying in graduate school, the future archimandrite Iannoarius Ivliev, who received an insignificant scholarship, began to look for part-time work. She should not have interfered with his studies. There were few options. Dmitry was glad when he was taken as a night watchman in the Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Epiphany. There, the young man first came into contact with the church life. He clearly saw her shortcomings: locked in liturgical practice, strict state supervision, lack of youth and missionary work, etc. However, all this did not alienate him. On the contrary, he was delighted and interested in the wealth of Orthodoxy, which was hidden behind visible poverty.

Dmitry began to study systematically Christian literature, which only caught his eye. The first book with which he met was "Acts of the Holy Apostles". After that, he enthusiastically read the works of Russian religious philosophers Vladimir Solovyov and Father Pavel Florensky.

Study of theology

In the late 1970s, the future Archimandrite Iannuarius Ivliev met Metropolitan Nikodim of Leningrad and Novgorod, who impressed him immensely. He invited the young scientist to become a student of the Leningrad Theological Academy. In October 1979, in the Assumption of the Krestovsky Church, Dmitry was ordained Metropolitan of Leningrad and Novgorod as a reciter.

Later D. Ya. Ivliev took monastic vows with the name of Iannoarius. At the same time he was ordained a priest.

Service

Over the next three decades Fr. Iannoarius taught the Holy Scriptures and performed various church obediences. He studied a lot of issues relevant to modern theology. I endeavored to bring the gospel to every parishioner and even those people who had never before sought solace in Christendom.

In 1981, Fr. Iannoarius defended his thesis, having obtained the degree of candidate of theology. The theme of his work was the patristic interpretation of certain passages of the Holy Scriptures. From that time, Ivliev became a teacher of the theological academy, where he still teaches Bible theology and the New Testament.

In 1985 he was awarded the title of Associate Professor. A year later on. Iannuarius was elevated to the rank of archimandrite by the Metropolitan of Leningrad and Novgorod. In 2005 he was awarded the title of professor of the St. Petersburg Orthodox Theological Academy.

Further activities

In subsequent years, Archimandrite Iannoarius Ivliev, with whom many people helped to find their way to God, engaged in active church and social activities. One of the main topics studied by Archimandrite Iannoarius Ivliev is "The Epistles of the Apostle Paul" and their interpretation by well-known theologians of different eras.
