Arches in the interior: original architectural solution

Today, arches in the interior of living quarters are becoming more popular, especially if tenants are replanning apartments. This is the original architectural solution. Most often, an arched opening is made in the hallways.

Types of arches

Arches in the interior are monolithic concrete, gypsum, brick and wooden (beech, oak, pine).

The door and window opening may have a lancet or round outline. Arches with a circular contour are divided into several types:

• "Modern" (rise in arc arch);
• "romance";
• "Ellipsoidal".

Brick arches

The arches in the interior are made in the same way as the masonry in the lunar crosspieces.

The masonry is made on a formwork, the base of which is circled in the form of an arch contour. For the accuracy of the installation at the required mark, the racks are installed on special wedges. For brickwork, a brick is used to ensure that all joints have the same thickness.

Wooden arches

Such apertures are made from unified glued blocks rigidly connected in intermediate nodes.

At the first method fastening of joints is usually carried out by special metal overlays which are tightened by bolts. Wooden elements are cut out along the necessary contour from a piece of wood according to a given pattern.

This method is rather simple, but it has a number of drawbacks, since the wood in the places of bends often split along the length of the fibers, which negatively affects the strength of the manufactured elements.

Arches made of wood with the second method are made of softened wooden elements, previously boiled or steamed in metal forms.

The element is placed in a container with boiling water and is kept for several hours with constant boiling of water. Then, at the bending point, the necessary mechanical stress is created to give the structure the desired shape. For this purpose, various adaptations are used, which resemble pipe bending machines. The element is fixed in the desired position until it dries. The wood fibers then take a stable shape with the physico-mechanical properties of the straight piece. To make the same bent elements, you should perform bending in special conductors.

In the third method, thin strips of wood are glued to the wooden block in places where the arch element is convex.

Arches in the interior can be performed by purchasing components in the retail network. The joints are fastened with metal straps, tightened bolts, which are covered with decorative panels.

Finished openings

The market offers finished arch openings in disassembled form, which can be assembled independently with a certain amount of knowledge about the construction of similar products.

Arches in the interior are of various modifications, so today's market offers components that allow changing the geometry of the original door structure with locks, special panels and decorative blocks.
