Mixed Concrete Characteristics, Composition, Production

Composition and production of cellular concrete and its characteristics

In recent years, cellular concrete has become a popular building material. The reason for such popularity became its characteristics. Blocks made of cellular concrete or another name for foam concrete are lightweight, have good thermal insulation and low cost, and are also environmentally friendly material.

The cellular concrete of its production composition and characteristics.

Cellular concrete, depending on the technology of production, is of two kinds. The first type - aerated concrete is obtained by mixing portland cement, sand, lime, water and adding a small amount of aluminum powder. As a result of the reaction, in which aluminum enters and quicklime , hydrogen is released. As a result, the initial mass of ingredients is foamed and its volume is increased several times. Further, the resulting mass is placed in an autoclave, where solidification of the resulting mass takes place.

The second type is actually a foam concrete. It is obtained by mixing the above ingredients, with the exception of aluminum powder with a foaming agent, followed by solidification under natural conditions.

However, aerated concrete has a 2-2.5 times greater strength than natural concrete foam concrete.

Ecological safety of aerated concrete

Like any known chemical element, aerated concrete has radioactivity. However, according to SNIP, aerated concrete belongs to materials of the second class of safety. In addition, the class of security is also widely used in the construction of claydite concrete. And according to the level of radioactive radiation, aerated concrete slightly falls short of wood. The aluminum that enters the aerated concrete composition at the end of the reaction is present only as a bound element, and even in very small amounts, not more than 0.1 percent (let us recall the lesson of school chemistry). Fire safety

Since the constituent elements of foam concrete are materials of mineral origin, aerated concrete is classified as a class of non-combustible materials.

Aerated concrete as insulation

Cellular concrete, having a porous structure, is a material with very good thermal insulation. The wall made of silicate brick, 50 cm thick, has the same characteristics as the foam wall of 20 cm thick. Besides, despite its porous structure, the foam concrete is not afraid of moisture and is not prone to mold. In the composition of cellular concrete there are no organic compounds that are needed for the life of the mold.
