Every beginner aquarist should know that there are special subtleties in the content and breeding of fish. For example, you need to know not only what the fish eat. The compatibility of these or those species also plays a huge role.

Habitat

It is important to know, in fresh water or brackish, aquarium fish selected by humans prefer to live. Habitat compatibility is one of the main aspects of healthy pets. The temperature regime, optimal for this or that kind, should also be included here. Many aquarium fish, whose compatibility with the chemical composition of the medium is ideal, differ in their relation to high or low temperature.

Predators pose a threat to the "calm population"

It is impossible to keep together predatory fish, feeding preferably live food, and peaceful ones, who eat plankton, insect larvae. If individuals of peaceful species have a large size, then a smaller predator, perhaps, will be careful to attack it. But as soon as it reaches the required size, for the life of a peaceful neighbor, the owner of the aquarium should start to fear and take action: to divide the container with opaque glass, to plant the fish or give one of the species to another aquarist.

To put together large and small inhabitants is a thankless task. After all, even those aquarium fish, whose compatibility in their habitat, water temperature and nutrition can be considered ideal, will be uncomfortable if a small, large-sized specimen lives next to the small fish. First, the difference in size will affect the amount of food consumed: smaller representatives will surely get only those crumbs, which "screeched" larger and stronger aquarium fish. Compatibility in the aquarium species of fish directly depends on their size. By the way, even inside one species one should follow the same rule: try to keep together individuals of approximately the same age and volume. It is easiest to breed small schooling fishes: they are beautiful, rather unpretentious, affordable and do not require much effort to care. These are guppies, striped zebrafish, barbs, swordfish, picilli, and mollies. But even here there are rules: it's better to keep the fry until they reach the size that they can not fit into their mother's mouth or papule.

Temperament is the most important criterion for amicable neighborhood

Different in temperament, many creatures on earth, including aquarium fish, differ in temperament. The compatibility of species prone to fights, with the types of calm schooling fish is zero. Such "fighters" as Siamese fighters, that is, cockerels, start fighting even among themselves, what can we say about quiet neighborhood with other, smaller and less temperamental fishes. Petushkov-males are even recommended not to keep in one aquarium - so strong in them fighting spirit. Some aquarium owners say that the cockerel can attack even its own reflection! A similar temperament is possessed by the astronotus: two males are closely "under one roof."
