Rabbits of the breed reks. Dwarf rabbit of breed rex

In 1919, rabbits of the Rex breed were bred in France. In 1924 they were first presented at the exhibition, and a year later the breed was officially recognized.

Almost immediately, these cute animals were exported to other countries of Europe and America. In Russia, representatives of the new breed came from Germany in a very original way. The fact is that Germany imposed a strict ban on the export of these animals. Soviet scientist Serebrovsky acted brilliantly - he crossed the rex with an ordinary specimen, and the resulting offspring, which did not at all resemble the "royal" breed, freely transported across the border. Already in Russia he crossed the grown-up animals, and as a result, the new litter showed "royal" blood.

What is the secret of wool?

It lies in the special structure of the hair of the rex. Downy and coarse hairs are approximately the same length, and much shorter than their counterparts from other breeds. Moreover, the outer hairs are much thinner than in ordinary breeds. A large angle between the skin and the hair, the lack of tieredness turns fur into silver and soft velvet.

Features of the breed

Rex is a rabbit weighing an average of 4-4.5 kg. It has a rounded and somewhat elongated body (about 54 cm), the head is not very large, the ears are of medium length, vertically planted. The females express a dewlap. The bones are narrow and fairly brittle. In one litter there are 6-8 toddlers.

The coat has a velvety texture to the touch. The length of the coat does not exceed two centimeters. Rabbits of the Rex breed have the most diverse colors - beaver with brown ridge, light sides and white abdomen, black, blue, white.

Maintenance and care

Rabbits of the breed reks well tolerate the cold, with proper care easily withstand the temperature to 30 degrees below zero, but the heat for them is fatal. The ideal conditions for keeping are: the temperature does not exceed +20 degrees at a humidity of 55%. Contain these cute animals in cages. This is due to the fact that freely moving around the room, rabbits can gnaw through wires, spoil furniture and other items.

Rex is a very clean rabbit. It does not even have to be accustomed to the tray. In addition to it, there should be a vacuum drinker in the cage, always filled with clean and fresh water, feeders for hay, dry and juicy feeds.

In the spring and summer rabbits can be taken out into the garden, but this will require a special aviary.

Food

Rabbits of the rex breed (the photo you see in our article) should receive a variety of feeds. Their diet must include dry mixed fodders (granulated), hay. Juicy forages - carrots, pumpkins, beets, zucchini, cabbage, rootstock tops - are a treat for these animals. From fruits you can give apples and pears, previously peeled from seeds. It should be remembered that vegetables and fruits are just a small addition to feed. Excessive use of them can cause the rabbit problems with digestion.

Rabbit Rex breed - price

Today, these cute animals can be bought at a price of 1 to 4 thousand rubles. The price depends on the color, age of the animal, availability of the relevant documents.

Castor Rex

When a dwarf rabbit with a short fur appeared in 1919, it was called "Dwarf Rex", or "Castor Rex", which means "Beaver King" in Russian. Such a beautiful name the animal received thanks to its exquisite fur, which reminded breeders of fur beaver or chinchilla.

Dwarf rabbit breeds of rex according to the Austrian standard weighs 1100-1250 grams. Animals of lower weight are not allowed for breeding.

The body of the dwarf rabbit is stocky, having a cylindrical shape. Because of the short coat, these animals seem quite tiny. Forelegs very short. A small tail closely adjoins the body.

Maintenance and care

A dwarf rabbit must be kept in a cage. Its length should be at least 70 cm. As a bedding, pressed filings or dry hay laid 3-4 cm thick will be most suitable. In the corner of the cage you have to put a house - your pet sometimes needs privacy. Feeders try to choose a heavy, better ceramic, because rabbits like to turn everything upside down. You can make it hanging. Your baby should always have fresh water, it should be changed every five hours. Floor litter should be changed every other day.

Since dwarf rabbits grow rapidly, it is more advisable to purchase a cage as an adult animal, so that your pet can lie, stretched to its full length.

Dwarf rex have some intelligence. After he has lived with the family for a while, he will go on his hands, remember his name. Charming kids are very fond of when they are stroked on the head and back, but they start to get nervous if you take them by the chin.

They are nocturnal animals. In the afternoon (before 5 pm) they usually rest in their house. At this time, they should not be bothered.

Dwarf rabbits are able to look after themselves on their own. Bathing them can only be in case of emergency. To do this, you need to buy a special shampoo in the pet store.

Food

Dwarf rabbits have a special digestive system. Single-chamber stomach and high digestion rate. Therefore, these animals eat up to thirty times a day, and the rabbit almost twice as often.

The main type of feed for these babies is hay. It should be to the feeder constantly. If the rabbit does not eat it very willingly, try to moisten it slightly with slightly salted water or sprinkle it with flour. An adult animal needs to plant a bark of trees and leaves (birch, apple, mountain ash, raspberry, pear, etc.) every day. As a supplement to the main food, you can give him grain - barley, oats, boiled or soaked beans.

These cute little animals are very fond of fresh grass. In the summer, provide them with this food. From succulent fodder, carrots, a little beet or cabbage, boiled potatoes are most suitable. Rabbits love apples. They should be cut into four parts and cleaned of bones. In the cage should only be fresh food, spoiled need to be cleaned in a timely manner.
