Anthurium flowers - exotic miracle with a tail

Anthurium is an exotic evergreen plant, a member of the family of Aroid or Aronian. According to different data, there are from 700 to 900 species. Among them there are both tree-like and climbing species, but mostly, these are herbaceous plants living in tropical rainforests. In the wild, anthurium lives in the tropical and subtropical regions of South and Central America. There are ornamental and beautiful flowering varieties of plants. In culture it is used as a room, garden or decorative plant for cutting.

Anthurium flowers look very beautiful and exotic: they represent a "veil", reminiscent of a huge petal, adjacent to the inflorescence. "Bedspread" can be white, purple, bright red, orange, pink, and the cob-like inflorescence - green, yellow, pink, red. The shape of the leaves is extremely diverse: they are heart-shaped, shovel-shaped, multi-pleated, lanceolate, whole or slightly dissected. The surface can be matte, glossy or semi-glossy, and the texture - from leathery to dense to fragile, like paper.

In the room, anthurium flowers require special care. They are demanding of lighting, humidity and watering. The plant prefers diffuse, but bright lighting. He does not like direct sunlight, as well as cold rooms, drafts, waterlogging, and even more so - stagnant water. The range of summer temperatures in the range of 20-28 оС, winter - 16-18 оС. Anthurium needs a high humidity of air (85-95%), therefore in summer it is required to regularly spray the leaves, trying not to get on the flower, or to wipe them with a wet sponge. Pour water at room temperature (preferably rain or standing), and in winter - warm water. If the stems of the plant are overlaid with moss, then it will be better to grow subordinate roots. In order to increase the humidity, pots can be placed in a pallet with wet sphagnum moss.

The buds are best placed with a cool (16-18 ° C) winter. Faded inflorescences should be removed, so that the seeds are not tied and not weakened, thus, the plant. Cut flowers for bouquets produce when the "coverlet" is completely open, the ear is covered with pollen, and the stalk is firm and sturdy. Anthurium flowers cut at this stage are able to stay fresh for up to 5 weeks, and if cut earlier, they wither for 2-3 days. With proper and careful care anthurium can bloom all summer long.

Proper care implies a regular anthurium transplant. Transplant plants can be in the beginning or during growth - from February to August. They plant them slightly deeper than before transplantation, to penetrate young roots. If necessary, you can tie the plant to the support. The best soil for the anthurium is a mixture of light turf ground with coarse fibrous deciduous soil and pieces of moss. It is equally important to choose the right pot for plant transplantation - it should be wider than the previous one by 2-3 cm. If the pot is too spacious, the root system will actively form in the plant, and it will not bloom as long as it is not taken care of.

They reproduce anthurium flowers in many ways:

  • Stem and apical cuttings;
  • Lateral shoots, which have independent roots;
  • Seeds.

Pruning a plant is not required. During the period of rooting and further growth, one should shade from the sun's rays, regularly spray and water the anthurium.

Leaf spots Can be the result of vital activity of mushroom parasites, excessive watering, and also a sign of unbalanced fertilizer. Black points on the leaves may indicate a too low air temperature for the plant. Small spots, which are visible on the lumen, can talk about damage by a spider mite. Anthurium also affects scutes, thrips and aphids. Excessively dry air can provoke the development of pests.
