Analysis and summary: "Bronze Bird" as the best children's novel by A. Rybakova

When the composer of hymns Sergei Mikhalkov asked him, trying to embarrass him, how he dared to write "for Stalin", Anatoly Naumovich Rybakov answered that for him the landmark was Leo Tolstoy, who was not afraid to write about Napoleon. He considered writing tetralogy "Children of the Arbat" the work of his whole life.

The writer already had a number of works that brought him the love of the domestic reader, the USSR and RSFSR prizes. Among them - the familiar trilogy of novellas "Krosh Vacation", the story "Dirk", "Bronze Bird", "Shot". This article is about one of his novels for young people. We present to you its brief content. "Bronze Bird" is a five-part story.

Pioneer camp near the castle of Count Karagaev

Komsomolets Misha Polyakov came to lead the pioneer detachment, which became a camp at the former manor of Count Karagaev. The purpose of the detachment was to combat illiteracy in the neighboring village and create a pioneer link there. The children communicated with local children. The most friendly were their relations with Vasya Rybalin, (on the street nickname Zherdyay). Brother Zherdyaya, Nikolai, helped the pioneers equip the village club.

Soon the incident happened: the pioneers Igor and Seva fled. The fugitives were teased by Genka Petrov. The instigator was sent to Moscow, to their parents.

The author of the story "The Bronze Bird" does not stint on the dynamism of the plot. The summary (Rybakova does not constrain the scope of the genre) of this novel is worthy of a whole novel.

Judge for yourself. Nikolai was in trouble. He arranged to meet with the former Kara-Yey forest warden Kuzmin to cross the boat to Khalzin meadow. But they shot him. Nicholas was detained while investigating the crime.

Learning that in the village at the local fist Erofeev was stolen a raft, Misha with his wards, as well as Vaska Zherdya went for the fugitives. Whatever one may say, the story "The Bronze Bird" (a brief summary of it - an investigation conducted by the boys) acquires the features of a thriller. Go ahead. From the artist-anarchist Kondraty Stepanovich, the children learned that the housekeeper Sofya Pavlovna and the boatman were searching together for the treasury of the Count. And here the plot, according to the expression of modern youth, ceases to be languid.

In search of treasure

Curious pioneers tried even to ward off the investigation. They received an official letter, signed by the same Serov, - to leave the territory adjacent to the castle. Yes, not about the fairy-tale world, Rybakov tells us, which is confirmed by a brief summary. "Bronze Bird" tells about the desire of children to bring scoundrels to clean water, to save Nicholas, while the investigator does not want to notice obvious truths at all. A well-known thief-recidivist, a specialist in currency and jewelry (which in fact proved to be a boatman), he considers incapable of murder. Running ahead, we will say that Serov was subsequently exposed as a bribe taker.

Misha and Slava in the museum examined the bronze figure of a bird, similar to that seen in the hall of the castle. The guys suspected the presence of a hiding place in it, because the countess, when she entered the museum, was right next to her. And the boys started watching. Two days later a tall limping man entered the museum and, opening his eyes to the bronze statue, opened the hiding place, and then put a note there. After his departure, the guys took out a piece of paper, informing them that the stranger would come to the castle next Wednesday.

The secret of the treasure of Count Karagaev

As we remember, there was also a bronze statue of a bird in the castle. And, as the brevity hints at us, the bronze bird in the hall also was a hiding place, and it contained a treasure map, which turned out to be misinformation. Realizing that a fake card will not help, Misha and friends have taken, as they say now, a brainstorm. Apparently, Karagaev, the youngest, killed the former Count Forest guard Kuzmin, who knew the place on the mound near the Khalzan River, where the treasure was hidden, but did not inform the Count's son about it.

A brilliant guess of the pioneers is crowned with a brief summary. The "Bronze Bird" brings the reader to the moment of truth, it is time for decisive action. The director of the orphanage at last became interested in looking for children. Misha and his friends invited him, the chairman of the village council and the investigator to go to the burial mound, where a brooch was found in the jewelry box sparkling with precious stones. Karagaev, Jr. tried to seize it, threatening with a pistol, but he was detained.

The story ends with the fact that the pioneers go home, and in the former count's castle the inmates of the labor colony settled.

Instead of an afterword

Considered by us the Soviet "thriller" about the youth of the 1920s, the pen of a talented author was a resounding success. In addition, he was filmed, and the film was no worse than the story. It remains only to wish our readers to find time and get acquainted with the work of A. Rybakov closer.
