With allergic rhinitis and adenoids: the drug "Nazonex" for children (reviews of specialists)

Nazonex nasal spray is manufactured in Belgium and is produced in white polyethylene bottles with different dosages: 60 doses (10 g) and 120 doses (18 g). Recently, otolaryngologists and immunologists have prescribed the drug "Nazonex" for children. Parents' responses at the forums testify to the effective use of this medication for colds, rhinitis, sinusitis, adenoids. How much it is authentic, we will consider in article.

The composition of the spray includes the main component of mometasone furoate and auxiliary substances (glycerol, dispersed cellulose, citric acid monohydrate, benzalkonium chloride, polysorbate-80, sodium citrate dihydrate, purified water). Due to the main component, the drug has an anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effect. However, an overdose may inhibit the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system.

In what cases is the drug "Nazonex" used for children?

The instruction says that this spray is prescribed for treatment:

  • Allergic seasonal or year-round rhinitis in adults and children from 2 years;
  • Acute or chronic sinusitis in adults and children of twelve years;
  • Acute rhinosinusitis in patients older than twelve years;
  • Polyposis of the nose in young men from eighteen years of age;
  • Prevention of allergic rhinitis in adolescents and adults.

The instructions give special attention to the fact that the drug is effective in treating those diseases where there are no bacterial infections. That is why, at its appointment the doctor specifies, whether if in a genus suffering an allergy, when the runny nose begins and how long it lasts. And only then he prescribes nasal spray "Nazonex":

  • To small children on the first dose in each nasal passage one or two times a day (depending on the type of disease),
  • Adolescents and adults two doses twice a day (in severe cases, up to four doses).

Recently, you can often hear from your parents that they prescribed the drug "Nazonex" from adenoids, whose treatment is not indicated in the instructions.

What are adenoids and why do they increase?

Adenoids are an increase in the nasopharyngeal tonsil to such an extent that it can make breathing difficult and reduce hearing. Signs of an increase in adenoids can be: congestion of the nose, breathing through the mouth, nasal voice, green snot, snoring in a dream. Removal of adenoids by surgical means does not always lead to positive results, since tonsils can again proliferate.

And pediatricians advise to refrain from such intervention, until the child is 7-10 years old. Therefore, parents start resorting to such drugs as Polidex, Isofra, tuya butter, peach oil, Tafen, Avamis, and Nazonex for children. Reviews of experts on the effective treatment of tonsillal enlargement vary.

Adenoids increase due to inflammation (expansion) of lymphoid tissue, the function of which is to protect the body from getting infections. But when the child enters the kindergarten and often gets sick, the tonsils are in a constant inflammatory process, expanding every day, turning into a chronic focus of infections.

Will the "Nazonex" spray help children with adenoids?

Also, the expansion of the tonsils is possible against the background of a decrease in the immune system (if the child is sick more than 8 times a year, then it is worth turning to the immunologist), allergies, congenital predisposition, tuberculosis. Why do adenoids still prescribe the drug "Nazonex" for children?

The responses of ENT doctors speak of the following:

  1. Treatment of adenoids occurs due to lavage of the nasopharynx, antibiotics, glucocorticosteroids, which act only on the nasal mucosa. And the spray "Nazonex" refers to this group of GCS.
  2. The drug inhibits the increase in lymphoid tissue, but with greatly increased adenoids, it is ineffective.
  3. If the adenoids increase on the background of allergies, then the spray "Nazonex" perfectly reduces allergic reactions in the early and late stages.

In any case, the treatment of adenoids should be comprehensive, and for this it is necessary to consult with Laura, the immunologist-allergist, to pass tests to identify the cause of the increase in tonsils and only then follow the treatment instructions. Since side effects are possible with the use of the drug "Nazonex" for children.

Experts' feedback indicates that children may have headaches, bleeding from the nose, sneezing, irritation in the nasal cavity. Therefore, the treatment should be carried out according to the prescription and follow the individual reactions of the body to the drug.
