Why do you need fluoridation of teeth?

As practice shows, the majority of people who turn to a dentist with a particular problem need to strengthen their tooth enamel. The main indications for strengthening - this is hypersensitivity and prevention of caries. This need arises from the lack of the body's substances necessary for the strength of tooth enamel - calcium and fluoride.

The most useful procedure in this case is the fluoridation of teeth - coating them with solutions and varnish with a high content of fluoride. This procedure allows you to saturate your teeth with fluoride ions, which prevents the formation of caries and tooth decay.

There are two types of tooth fluoridation: simple and more modern and effective deep fluoridation.

The first type is widely distributed, it is used in almost all dental institutions and is completely painless. Simple tooth fluoridation is carried out in two ways:

- using individual "spoons" - molded teeth made of wax and filled with a fluoride-containing preparation. Such "spoons" are applied to the teeth for 10-15 minutes. To achieve the desired effect, the procedure must be repeated at least 10 times, i.e. 10 times to visit a dentist;

- with the use of lacquer, which is applied with a special brush on the surface of the teeth. This method of fluoridation reduces the number of visits to the dentist up to 3-4 times;

With simple fluorination, fluorine is not deposited at the depth of the pores, as is the case with deep fluorination.

Deep fluoridation of teeth is based on the use of enamel printing preparations.

Before the procedure of deep fluoridation, teeth are cleaned from the stone and plaque, then they are dried with the help of warm air and with a tampon cover the teeth with an enamelling liquid. After a couple of minutes, the teeth are again dried, and then covered with a solution of copper hydroxide with a tampon.

During the procedure of coating the teeth with an enamel printing liquid, fluorine adheres to the pores of the destroyed tooth enamel, and when coated with calcium hydroxide, crystals of silicic acid and calcium fluoride are formed. These crystals penetrate into any, even the tiniest pores of the enamel, and the concentration of fluoride is five times higher than in simple fluorination.

Unfortunately, the loss of fluoride with teeth and related problems are not just for adults. In Russia, according to statistics, there are caries in a third of children aged 10-12 years. This is because in our country practice of caries prevention is not widespread. At the same time in Europe, where fluoridation of milk teeth is a fairly common procedure, only 1 child out of a hundred suffers from dental caries. Children, as well as adults, can do both simple and profound fluoridation. Thanks to this procedure, the enamel becomes much harder, the sensitivity of the teeth decreases and the risk of developing caries.

As an alternative to strengthening the enamel of the baby teeth, silvering is also used. This method is that a solution is applied to the teeth, which contains silver. This solution forms an inconspicuous film on the teeth, which slows the development and formation of caries. It should be understood that this procedure is not a cure, it is simply the preservation of the tooth enamel, which prevents its further destruction until the moment the child grows up. This is enough for the full preservation of children's teeth.

It should be noted that both fluoridation and silvering are fairly simple and painless procedures and do not need to do anesthesia. In dentistry in the West, they are spread extremely widely and gradually become familiar in domestic dentistry.

Procedures of fluoridation and silvering should be carried out with a certain periodicity, which depends on the condition of the teeth and will be recommended by the attending physician.
