Which is better: Intel or AMD? Comparison of the platforms of the two leading manufacturers when buying a PC

Among the "geek" of several generations for many years, there has been a dispute on the topic of which "manufacturer" of which manufacturer should choose when buying a PC. In this article, we will try to answer one of the most important questions in this protracted discussion - what is better: Intel or AMD? To do this, let's conduct a small analysis of the market leaders in processors and motherboards, from which we will try to make a conclusion about which of these two companies still deserve to own the palm tree of the championship in our days.

Since to determine the best processor of all time and people will be almost impossible, let's consider the confrontation between the two giants of this industry by the example of the choice of components for a computer that is destined to serve at least five years. At the same time, a part of not very important aspects will have to be left without attention. But this will help focus on the main question - what is better: Intel or AMD when choosing a computer that can please with its reliability of work and good performance is quite a long term by today's standards? Therefore, as the main criteria for choosing "iron", let's consider parameters such as reliability, the possibility of improvement and economy.

After a short analysis of the motherboards on the market over the last few years, we can conclude that this part of approximately the same class from the manufacturers we are considering will cost almost the same. So let's try to determine the leader in our race, based on the analysis of the "heart" of any computer - its processor. At the same time, let's assign the price / quality ratio as the main criterion of choice. Having studied the history of the development of the IT market over the past decades, we can say with confidence that it's better that no one did Intel or AMD during this time. And since the release of its first "stone" in 1996, AMD almost every year produced the best components taking into account the price / quality ratio, giving way on the top for only a couple of years - in 2007 and 2008 the leaders of the market were Intel Core processors. Thus, it would be more economical to acquire an AMD processor that will cost less, but it will not yield as its direct competitors to Intel.

In terms of reliability, it is difficult to single out one of the leaders of our confrontation. The components that are the same in quality will serve for a long time no matter which of the companies in question produced them. However, if you think about the fact that over time the user will want to upgrade his PC a bit, it is more profitable to purchase hardware from AMD, since the platform of this company is much easier and more profitable to upgrade. Perhaps this is due to the fact that experts from Intel believe that it is more profitable to completely update the computer every three to four years (in essence it means to buy a new system unit) than to change the components in an existing "system".

After studying several generations of processors, one can come to the conclusion that the average lifetime of the processor socket for AMD products is more than three years, while the "Intel" processor connectors on average serve no more than a year and a half. Therefore, when choosing components for a computer that is destined to serve at least five years, the question of what is better - Intel or AMD, looking at such statistics, should not arise at all.

Quite a different situation develops if the choice of components do not focus on the PC for more than two years and do not limit the budget for the purchase. In this case, Intel can win from its competitor at the expense of performance without looking at the cost and reliability of hardware. In other words, the best "for gaming" processor can have an Intel logo on its box, but only if you do not try to save money and do not expect that this computer will serve you faithfully in five to seven years.
