Where the water becomes a killer: the most dangerous places in the world

Many people do not imagine rest without the presence of any pond, be it an ocean, a river or a lake. At the same time, there are places on the Earth where water carries a mortal danger for tourists.

The Great Blue Hole (Belize)

During the tide, the Great Blue Hole turns into a huge whirlpool. Despite the dangerous huge waves, this paradise at first sight seems to attract a large number of travelers every year. Jacques Cousteau once called the Great Blue Hole one of the best places for diving on the planet.

Well of Jacob (USA)

A natural well, whose depth reaches 10 meters, is famous for its crystal clear water. At the same time, this place among divers is considered one of the most deadly. The fact is that near the bottom of the well of Jacob there are entrances to a wide network of underwater caves. Of some, the divers never returned.

Lake Michigan (USA)

By the number of terrible air accidents that occurred for unknown reasons, Lake Michigan is almost inferior to the Bermuda Triangle. In addition, because of the sudden rapid currents, several dozens of people die every year. Despite this, many Americans like to spend their vacation near a deadly lake.

Lake Natron (Tanzania)

Lake Natron, located in Tanzania, is considered one of the most saline and alkaline water bodies on the whole planet. The water in it is covered with a crust of salt, which sometimes turns red. In addition to the large alkalinity, the lake is also dangerous for the abnormal water temperature, which can reach 50 degrees Celsius. Here live only three species of fish, which were able to adapt to such extreme conditions.

The Blue Hole (Egypt)

This vertical cave, whose depth exceeds 150 meters, is located near the Egyptian city of Dahab. The blue hole was the last haven for many inexperienced divers. At the same time, experienced divers say that the water here is absolutely safe, provided that you are thoroughly prepared for the dive.

Lake Horseshoe (USA)

This pond is considered deadly due to the huge release of carbon dioxide from the faults on its bottom. These evaporation caused the death of at least four people, and also destroyed all trees within a radius of tens of kilometers. The danger from the side of the Horseshoe Lake is indicated by warning signs placed by the local authorities at the entrance to the reservoir.

Lake Boiling (Dominica)

This lake is not without reason called "boiling" - the water in it often warms up to a temperature of 92 degrees Celsius. This effect is achieved because of underground air bubbles heated by lava flows. Even if the surface of the lake is calm, it is strictly forbidden to swim in it, as the reservoir at any time can boil up in a matter of seconds.

Rio Tinto (Spain)

Because of intensive long-term mining, conducted near the source of the Tinto River, its water became saturated with copper, iron and heavy metals. This led to a sharp increase in the acidity of water. But even in such conditions, bacteria live in the local waters that can oxidize metals. They paint the river in bright red color.

Drake Passage

The Drake Passage, connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans in the south, is considered one of the most difficult routes for navigation. Bad visibility, the presence of a large number of icebergs, gusts of wind and strong currents are able to call into question the survival of even the strongest ships. Prior to the discovery of the Panama Canal, the Drake Passage was rightfully considered a ship cemetery because of the large number of wrecks in local waters.

Lake Kivu (Rwanda)

At first glance, this pond is absolutely peaceful. But the waters of this lake hide a mortal threat to all life. In addition to a large amount of carbon dioxide, there are about 55 billion cubic meters of methane. Even the smallest earthquake can lead to a colossal explosion that will destroy everything, including two million local residents.

Any pond can be fatal

Regardless of which pond is chosen for recreation, it is always necessary to check whether it is suitable for bathing. Often even in the most popular beach resorts, the water literally teems with various parasites that can cause great harm to human health.
