Where is Rasputin Gregory buried? Where is Grigory Rasputin's grave?

Mysteries of history always excited people. And at all times there were researchers who want to shed light on some of the dark pages of their country's past. Especially many mysteries are associated with the last years of the Russian Empire. In particular, it has not yet been established exactly where Rasputin Gregory is buried and what happened to his remains.

Brief biographical note

Before we find out where Grigory Rasputin's grave is, it is worth recalling some pages of his biography. The future "elder", who, despite his peasant background, was able to become an approximate of the royal family and personal friend of the emperor and the empress, was born in 1869 in the family coachman. Being by nature very painful, in his youth Gregory made a pilgrimage to the Verkhotursky monastery in order to recover from his numerous ailments. On his return from this trip, he had an interest in religion. And in 1893 Rasputin went on a journey to holy places. After visiting the holy Mount Athos and Jerusalem, he returned to his native village and married a peasant Praskovie Dubinina, who later gave birth to three children.

In Petersburg

In 1903, Rasputin came to Petersburg and met some spiritual dignitaries, including Bishop Hermogen and Archimandrite Theophanes. The latter described the "wanderer" to two Montenegrin princesses, who were married to Russian grand dukes, and they shared this information with the empress. Alexandra Feodorovna, because of her son's illness, was constantly in a state of religious exaltation and was ready to believe anything, if only it helped to save her boy. In 1905 the first meeting of Rasputin and Nicholas II took place, and later he himself became a frequent visitor in the Winter Palace. In the next decade, his behavior often gave rise to gossip, and the name often appeared in police reports. On top, Rasputin quarreled with many important clergymen, including those who had once protected him.

last years of life

At the beginning of 1912, the State Duma formally declared its negative attitude towards Grigory Rasputin, and Nikolai II was forced to sign an order to begin an investigation that was to determine whether this elder had anything to do with the Khlysty sect. It must be said that before Grigory Rasputin died on December 30, 1916, he was repeatedly under investigation on charges of heresy, but each time the cases were stopped for lack of evidence. In addition, the elder allowed themselves to give the emperor advice on the foreign and domestic policy of the state. In particular, in 1912 he dissuaded the emperor from intervention in the Balkan war.

Assassination and Murder

By the summer of 1914, a conspiracy against Rasputin had matured at the court. At its sources stood the grandson of Nicholas I and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of all land and naval forces of the empire NN Romanov. The conspirators decided to take advantage of the fact that the elder was at home at the time, in the village of Pokrovskoe, and on June 29 he was sent to him by the murderer Khionia Gusev. The woman wounded Rasputin in the stomach, but he remained alive, and she was declared insane and sent to a psychiatric hospital.

Two years later, a group of conspirators decided to commit another attempt on Rasputin. Princes FF Yusupov and DP Romanov, VM Purishkevich took part in it. In addition, there is information that the group was also a British intelligence officer Oswald Reiner. They lured the elder into Yusupov's palace and first tried to poison him. When it became obvious that the poison did not work, Prince Yusupov shot at Rasputin, he tried to escape, but fell. The prince went to get his cloak, but when he returned, he saw that Rasputin was alive. Then the conspirators began to shoot at him, and when he died, they drove him to Petrovsky Bridge by car. The fact is that they had previously chosen a place where they were going to drown the body of an old man. Thus, if the plan of Yusupov and his comrades worked, the question of where Grigory Rasputin's grave should be answered should be answered thus: "at the bottom of the Neva." However, everything went wrong, as the conspirators expected.

Investigation of the circumstances of the death of Rasputin

After the "disappearance" of Rasputin, an investigation was launched, led by the Director of the Police Department. He very quickly managed to find out that on the eve of the old man went to the palace to Yusupov. In addition, the policeman, who was on duty at night from the 16th to the 17th of December near the place where the murder was committed, heard shots. The Yusupovs' mansion was searched and found traces of blood in his cellar. Thus, it became obvious that it was a murder. A few hours later, there was also a report on blood stains on the parapet of the Petrovsky Bridge, in the place where the polynya was located. The police had a suspicion that this was the secret "grave" of Grigory Rasputin. They called the divers, who raised the body of the elder from the water.

The funeral

On the night of December 21, the funeral of Rasputin took place in the Chesme Chapel, which was performed by Bishop Isidor, a longtime acquaintance of the elder. According to rumors, the ceremony was attended by Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, but there is no documentary evidence of this fact. Initially, the body was going to be transported to the old man's homeland. If this intention was implemented, then in response to the question "where Rasputin Gregory is buried," it should be answered that in the village of Pokrovsky, located near Tyumen. However, the transportation of the remains across the country could have led to popular unrest. And so the place for the grave was chosen closer to St. Petersburg.

Grigory Rasputin: burial in the Alexander Park

In 1916, the closest friend of the old man - the maid of honor Anna Vyrubova - decided to organize a hospital in Tsarskoe Selo and build the church of Seraphim of Sarov with him. It was on the territory of this building temple that Grigory Rasputin was buried originally. According to legend, an icon was placed in the coffin with the body of the Elder, on which there were the signatures of Alexandra Feodorovna, her daughters and Vyrubova. However, the secret grave of Grigory Rasputin in the Alexander Park was discovered after the February Revolution. Having received an appropriate report, Kerensky ordered General Kornilov to take care of the burning of the remains.

Was there any cremation?

For many years many historians believed that the question "where Rasputin Gregory is buried" has no answer, since there was an act of burning his remains in the furnace of the Polytechnic Institute on March 11, 1917. However, today there are versions according to which, in 1917, a coffin with a body of a completely different person was discovered, and the old man still rests on the territory of the Alexander Park. In addition, some researchers believe that during cremation, some of the bones could not turn into coal and ash, and they were scattered around the Piskarevsky forest. There is also the opinion that on the way to the campus of the Polytechnic Institute the car with the remains of Rasputin stopped and they were burned right in the forest. In favor of this version speak testimony of eyewitnesses claiming that on one of the trees near the place of possible cremation at the end of the winter of 1917 there was a sign with the inscription in German saying that the dog was buried there. Further it was possible to read the following: "Here on the night of 10 to 11 March 1917 the corpse of Rasputin Gregory was burned."

Historical personalities and everything connected with them, at all times, caused increased interest. It is known even a lot of cases when the objects of worship were the graves of celebrities. Rasputin Grigory Efimovich is no exception. However, in his biography there are many dark pages. In particular, it is still impossible to say exactly where Rasputin Grigory is buried. And the only place where his admirers can bring flowers is a worship cross at the place of the chapel of Seraphim of Sarov, where the remains of this extraordinary person were originally based.
