The city of Kirov is not only an administrative center, but also an important industrial and cultural and historical center of its region. First of all, it is known as the birthplace of the famous Dymkovo toy, and since recently - also kvass of the local spill. Where is Kirov? And what will surprise the city of a visiting traveler?

This is one of the oldest cities in Russia. It was founded in 1174 on the river Vyatka (by the way, that's what it was called originally - Vyatka). Where is Kirov and how far is the city from Moscow?

Kirov is a fairly large city located in the European part of Russia. It is the administrative center of the same area. To find out where Kirov is located relative to Moscow, it is enough to look at the map of the country. The city is located 900 kilometers to the north-east of the capital.

The settlement on the bank of the Vyatka River has experienced several renaming. The chain of modifications of its name looks something like: Vyatka - Khlynov - Vyatka - Kirov. In 2008, part of the public raised the issue of returning the city to its original name. However, sociological studies have shown that most of the urban residents do not support this idea.

Where is Kirov in terms of physical geography? The city is located in the river valley of Vyatka, within the Russian Plain. The territory of Kirov occupies seven low hills. The city is located in the natural zone of the southern taiga and is surrounded by pine, as well as fir-spruce forests.

What to see in Kirov: the main sights of the city

With sights in Vyatka, everything is fine, as experienced tourists say. Museums, parks, ancient buildings and temples, numerous monuments of architecture and history can all be seen here. Unfortunately, the Vyatka Kremlin has not come down to our days. But the ensemble of Trifonov Monastery, which was founded in the 16th century, was perfectly preserved.

Visiting cards of the city can be considered local kvass, as well as two folk crafts: lace Vyatka lace and the famous Dymkovo toy of clay.
