Pictures with a historical background

One of the most famous masterpieces exhibited in the main exposition of the museum was the painting "The Apotheosis of War." Written by her famous artist Vasily Vereshchagin in 1871. He created an eternally relevant picture, being impressed by the battle in Turkestan. Then the gentle soul of the painter was struck by the cruelty to which people are capable.

The original name of the painting is "The Triumph of Tamerlane".

The painting has a background. Legend has it that Tamerlane punished the lecherous men of Damascus. He heard complaints from women that the men had stopped behaving decently. Then Tamerlane gathered an army, and each soldier from the army of many thousands ordered to bring one head of such a depraved man. It is said that at the feet of the commander there were seven huge pyramids built from the skulls of the dead.

A little later, Vereshchagin realized that this image is suitable for absolutely any war that bears destruction and death. In the Tretyakov Gallery you can see his other creations.

Another historical painting is a painting by Surikov entitled "Boyarina Morozova". The artist in his painting depicted a historical event of the seventeenth century. Then the church split. Some of its representatives wanted change, and others adhered to old traditions. Second later called the Old Believers. Among them was and Theodosius Morozov. The fate of the boyar was very difficult. Representatives of the new church brutally dealt with dissidents, sparing no children and women. Morozov was arrested, and then put in an earthen pit, where they stopped feeding. She died of hunger.

Surikov painted himself in the form of a wanderer, watching the brutal action.

Household paintings

What can you see in the Tretyakov Gallery on topics from everyday life?

Artist Vasily Pukirev in the painting "Unequal Marriage" managed to convey all the despair experienced by a young girl, doomed to marry an old man.

The painter painstakingly drew this canvas so believable, and it seems that he is alive. The guide in the museum will tell the visitors that the author of the painting himself suffered from such a marriage. His lover was obliged to marry a rich dignitary.

If you look more closely at the masterpiece, then the best man standing behind the bride, obviously against this marriage, is Vasily Pukirev. His gloomy face and his hands folded on his chest testify to how much he is sad and angry.

Political paintings

What can you see in the Tretyakov Gallery on this subject? One of the vivid examples of political paintings was the picture of Repin "Not Waited."

Under this name, two works are hanging in the gallery at once. Both of them are the work of Ilya Repin. Both became one of the most famous paintings in the popular culture of Russia. Works presented in the Tretyakov Gallery:

In the Tretyakov Gallery you can see "Bathing the Red Horse" Petrov-Vodkin (also partly political subjects).

The name of the canvas is a symbol of Russia from the time of the artist. The horse is torn to freedom. And the rider who sits on it is too inexperienced and small.

Petrov-Vodkin sketched a horse with a real one. The living prototype responded to the nickname Boy. A teenager in the picture was a pupil of the artist named Kalmykov Sergey. Kalmykov himself wrote about this to his descendants, proud of being on a masterpiece.

Kramskoy's painting "The Unknown" became a symbol of St. Petersburg. On it, a girl in a carriage rides along the Anichkov Bridge. Many researchers of the artist's work try to find out who this mysterious young lady is. According to one version, this is Anna Karenina, the heroine of the literary work of L. Tolstoy. On the second - Nastasya Filippovna. And the third version says that the picture depicts Kramskoy's daughter. The girl is compared to the masterpiece of Leonardo da Vinci - "La Gioconda".

Romanticism

Boris Kustodiev wrote a rather provocative picture for the present time with the proud title "Beauty". This work is not recommended to watch opponents of nude graphics, because it depicts the charming actress of the local theater, which the artist wrote from life. Boris Kustodiev drew a picture, relying only on a small sketch pencil, which made during the visit of the actress.

The interior of the room was copied from the artist's apartment.
