Wall-mounted bike carrier

Cycling is a favorite activity for many. However, weather conditions do not always allow this, for example, in the winter season. And the favorite means of transportation must be postponed or set aside for a while. Will it be suitable for next season? All depends on the chosen method of storage.

If the area of the apartment allows, you can just put the bike somewhere in the corner. Or you can disassemble it and add it in pieces to the mezzanine or to the closet if it fits. It is good to use a special bike carrier, for example, a wall mount. You can take the bike to the garage, but you need to be there dry, and that the garage is heated. This will save the elastic parts (shock absorber, saddle, handles from the steering wheel) and rubber from drying and keep them in working order. You can also leave the bike for the winter on the outdoor balcony. At the same time, all elastic parts are removed and left at home, and metal parts are smeared with oil and wrapped in oiled paper. This is the worst storage option for a bicycle. It's okay if it's stored on a glassed-in balcony. It is quite similar in characteristics to a dry heated garage.

Bicycle mounting on the wall is the best way to store it. Thanks to this rather common bicycle accessory, the bicycle does not need to be dismantled, it is always in sight and does not take up much space. In this case, there are a number of wall mounts that allow you to store a bicycle, hanging it behind the wheel, behind the wheel, the upper tube of the frame, behind the pedal. In this case, it is best to buy a ready-made bicycle mount, than to make it yourself. Although, having engineering thinking and masterful hands, you can independently cope with this task, having spent, of course, a lot of time for a shopping trip in search of necessary details.

It is best to store the bike in a horizontal position. Suspension behind the wheel will inevitably lead to deformation of the rim. Also storing it in an attic, summer cottage, balcony or garage with a constant temperature fluctuation can disable the filling of the shock absorber, and all steel components will be covered with rust. A good solution in this situation is a relatively inexpensive wall mount for a bicycle. It represents two hooks that are attached to the wall. The bicycle is suspended on them by the upper tube of the frame. In this way it is perfectly stored, and it does not need to be disassembled and collected. This holder can also be used as a basic parking during the cycling season. So he will not fall to his feet or otherwise interfere with the rest of the family.

Using such a bicycle mount, one can face difficulty if the cable routing in the bicycle passes laterally from the top pipe or under it, and thus the cables in the suspended state are clamped. To ensure that they are not deformed, you need to put a piece of dense material between the frame and the cables.

If you decide to make this kind of bicycle mount yourself, it's enough to buy a couple of big hooks in the building shop, and then cover them with rubber insulating tape or liquid rubber. This will help not to damage the bicycle. But there is no guarantee that such fastening will not break.
