Voronovo - homestead in the Moscow region

Manor Voronovo (Podolsky district) is one of the oldest and most famous in the Moscow region. It has an interesting history full of dramatic events, and today it welcomes its doors to those who decided to rest and improve their health at the RF Ministry of Economic Development.

The history of the manor from the foundation to the 19th century

The bar court in place of the modern Voronovo existed before the Time of Troubles and the Polish invasion. It belonged to Voron-Volynsky, who were the direct descendants of one of the heroes of the Kulikovo battle - the famous Prince Bobrok. During the reign of Anna Ioannovna, owner of the estate Artemy Petrovich Volynsky, married to his cousin Peter the Great, took part in a conspiracy against Biron, therefore he was executed. As a result, the estate was confiscated in favor of the treasury, but after the accession of Elizabeth Petrovna, the daughter of the former owner, who by that time was married to Count Ivan Vorontsov, was returned to him.

The new owner of the Voronovo manor has done a lot to make it become one of the most comfortable and beautiful corners of the Moscow region. In general, representatives of this kind entered the history of Russia as the founders of new traditions of Russian barbaric life.

Construction of the palace

The Vorontsov brothers invited from the capital the famous architect Carl Blanc, who designed and built for them a three-story manor house with majestic columns, portico and outbuildings. As a result, a real palace turned out, which caused admiration and envy among contemporaries. In 1775, there, even with great splendor, Catherine II was received, in memory of what the two twin obelisks were installed in the estate.

The estate at the count Rostopchin

The squandering of the Vorontsov brothers led to the fact that they had to sell their favorite estate for a huge sum at that time - 320,000 rubles. Thus, the Voronovo estate near Moscow began to belong to Count Fedor Rostopchin. This favorite of Pavel the First was almost there all the eight years, during which he spent huge sums for the arrangement of greenhouses, a garden and a horse yard.

As a result, according to the testimony of contemporaries, Voronovo became the main decoration of the Podolsky district, where they went to see the eccentricity of the count, who planted Mediterranean plants and built a flying ship. This device, remotely resembling a balloon, Rostopchin intended to use in the war with Napoleon, whom he fiercely hated and considered antichrist. However, the ship was never able to get into the air, and all the funds for its construction were wasted.

Arson and recovery

When the French occupied Moscow, Rostopchin, who at that time was the Moscow military governor, burnt his favorite estate with his own hands and left a message to the invaders. In it, he wrote that he himself destroyed his own home, so that it was not contaminated by the presence of a hated enemy. Such an act in the spirit of the heroes of antiquity made a strong impression on contemporaries, as well as the unexpected transition to Catholicism of the wife of the Count - Catherine Petrovna.

Rostopchin spent the last years of his life first abroad, and afterwards - in Moscow, and almost did not appear in Voronovo, where his son and daughter-in-law settled down. They built a two-story manor house on the foundation of the old palace, which was no different from other noble nests of his time.

Voronovo at Sheremetyevoy

In the middle of the 19th century, the estate had new owners. They were Alexander and Sergey Sheremetyev, who bought Voronovo. The estate in this period began to resemble the country dwellings of the French rich bourgeois. In particular, the attic roof was built over the house, the southern wing was dismantled, the gallery was expanded, and an arcade with a balcony was added to the frontage.

In the last decade before the revolution, the estate came to desolation, as its owners: the daughter of the Sheremetyevs and her husband - only rarely visited Voronovo. The estate was nationalized with the coming to power of the Bolsheviks, and in 1949 they founded a sanatorium there. In connection with this, the master's house was rebuilt, and a medical building with rooms and other structures appeared on the territory. In the post-Soviet period, the Voronovo estate was transferred to the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, and a modern medical and preventive center was established there. It is equipped with the most modern equipment, and there are all conditions for recreation for adults and children.

Description of the estate

To visit Voronovo, you should go to the Voronovskoye settlement, which is part of the Troitsky administrative district of the capital. On the estate today only the following buildings are preserved:

  • A beautiful manor house, which is a building in which architectural styles of different periods of the 19th century are combined;
  • A picturesque Dutch house with decorative vases, white stone details and figured pediments, built by Carl Blank in the style of the Petrine era;
  • The corner tower is the only building preserved from the magnificent horse yard, founded under Count Rostopchin, which was burned down in the fire of 1812.

Also on the territory of the estate you can see the so-called Dutch pond with a small landscaped beach and the Church of the Savior Not Made by Hands. This church was built in 1762 by the owners of the estate and consecrated in a year with the blessing of the then Metropolitan Timothy. Three decades later, Vorontsov's spouses were buried in it, but to this day their tombstones have not been preserved. A little later, at a distance, a baroque bell tower was built, which together with the Dutch house is considered a symbol of the manor.

Legends

Like any old manor, Voronovo has its secret. So, they say that after the fire arranged by Rostopchin, not a single marble statue was found on the ashes, although there were many of them in the manor house and in the garden. At the same time it is for certain that the Moscow governor-general did not evacuate any valuables from there. These facts allowed to assume that under the house or nearby there must be a dungeon, where during the occupation the treasures of the Rostopchiny family were hidden. Whether it really exists or not, is not known for certain, but the old-timers say that during the construction of the sanatorium in the late 1940s an underground labyrinth was discovered.
