Volodarsky Bridge in St. Petersburg

Famous in St. Petersburg Volodarsky Bridge was named so in honor of the leader of the revolution V. Volodarsky, which was committed a deadly attempt at the construction of the future bridge in 1918. Hundreds of workers came to lead a revolutionary in the last way to the Field of Mars. Later, in 1925, a monument to Volodarsky, created by architect V.V. Vitman and sculptor MG Manizer, was erected on the site of the murder. The Volodarsky Bridge is the only bridge in St. Petersburg with an overpass for trams.

In the 30s, in connection with the new design of the southeastern part of Leningrad with a ring road, the need arose to build a permanent bridge. The project was developed by an engineering team headed by Professor GP Perederiy, which also included specialists VI Kryzhanovskii, KM Dmitriev and AS Nikol'skii. The Volodarsky Bridge was a three-span reinforced concrete arched structure with a lower driveway, with an average metal ramp and two traffic junctions with both banks of the Neva. According to a constructive solution, the bridge scheme was approximated to the Bolsheokhtinsky bridge. For the construction of arched constructions of lateral spans of the bridge structure, metal pipes filled with concrete were first used. The spreading span was blocked by farms, in the connection of which welding was used.

The bridge project was realized in the period from 1932 to 1936. It was one of the most beautiful bridge structures in Leningrad. The movement along the Volodarsky Bridge was opened on November 7, 1936. Its construction was one of the first major projects of the Soviet era with a number of architectural and technological innovations. The scheme, which later became a model for the bridges of Moscow, was first realized in this project. In fact, the bridge was 325 m long and 27.4 m wide. The Volodarsky bridge during the Great Patriotic War was used as an understudy of the Finnish railway bridge for the transportation of rolling stock between the banks of the Neva.

From 1970 to 1971, the reconstruction of some parts of the bridge was completed, which became obsolete from the time they were commissioned. Subsequent repairs were carried out between 1987 and 1993. The Volodarsky Bridge (St. Petersburg) after its commissioning in 1993 had considerable throughput. Many large vessels have now been given the opportunity to pass under the bridge without a central span.

In 2008, the bridge was reconstructed to strengthen steel structures of fixed span structures.
Volodarsky Bridge, whose divorce is carried out together with other bridges of the city, attracts spectators and romantics every night. The breeding of bridges in St. Petersburg takes place in the summer of the white nights season , when the city is very beautiful. At this time, bridges are built over the Neva River for passing ships. This is done in a sequential order, starting from the Gulf of Finland and from the Volodarsky bridge to the center.
