Volkov: paintings of a Russian painter

The artist Volkov Efim Efimovich, whose paintings are full of natural charm and subtle harmony, is a famous painter, a bright representative of Russian nature artists whose work is rich in several hundred landscapes, sketches and a huge number of landscape drawings. Contemporaries considered this author, whose works are represented in the art museums of large cities, "the poet of Russian autumn and fogs," because in the main he painted landscapes of Russian latitudes. In his works, Yefim showed not bright and catchy terrains, but modest, unobtrusive nooks of nature, trying to convey the charm and unique poetry peculiar to these places as accurately as possible.

Biography of Yefim Volkov

Coming from the family of a private St. Petersburg paramedic, Yefim Volkov, whose paintings colorfully convey the charm of Russian nature, was born in 1844 on April 4. He received his education in a private boarding school, and afterwards in the Vvedenskoe Gymnasium of the city of Petersburg. The artistic path of the Wolves, whose paintings are adorned with many picture galleries, was chosen not at once: for some time he was engaged in bureaucratic clerical work. Being a creative person, Yefim settled himself in a drawing school in 1866 and for a year mastered a four-year program. Next Volkov settled himself as an auditor in the Imperial Academy of Arts. Excerpts to attend classes were enough for only one year, after which the artist left the walls of the school and took up painting. His painting "The Swamp of Autumn" (1871), depicting a dull picture of the approach of autumn days and the threshold of the coming cold weather, became a prize-winner of two exhibitions: the World London with a bronze medal and the Society for the Encouragement of Artists with the second prize. In this work, the author first used the effect of a barely perceptible haze, which will often be used in the autumn-spring landscapes.

The artworks of artist Volkova

In addition to the swampy terrain, Yefim Volkov's favorite art is the forest, its picturesque fringes, glades surrounded by trees, small lakes and banks of winding rivers. Honoredly received the prize paintings Volkov "At the Bazaar" (1874) and "In the Forest. In the spring "(1876). Creativity of Volkov is characterized by high inspiration, subtlety of experiences, the image of a calmly poetic state of nature, the absence of violent manifestation of the elements. "Moonlit Night in the Forest" with a full captivating bliss warm at night or "Winter Landscape" with a truly shown state of the silence of the snow forest - the canvas of Yefim Volkov is immersed in a state of peace and harmony with nature.

In 1879, a significant event took place in the life of the Russian painter: he was elected a member of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions, a little earlier, thanks to the efforts of DV Grigorovich, secretary of the Society for the Encouragement of Artists, a talented painter was awarded a scholarship. Creativity of the artist, who became famous since the 1870s, was interested in many printed publications ("World illustration", "Bee", "Niva", "Art chronicler" and others), often printed reproductions of his works with the description and comments.

The artist's family affliction

Creative success, recognition of the audience, happiness in family life - it seemed that the artist had everything he could dream about. Efima Volkova broke the sudden death of his adored young daughter in 1884. The artist was so shocked by this misfortune that he barely managed to survive. During this period, his work is characterized by a sad mood, the drawing of monks and elders, buried from the madding of the monastery walls. A vivid example is the canvas "Skeet", when you look at which involuntarily there are deserts, where the groans of the outside world do not come, and nature is solemnly calm. In the landscape of Russian painting, Yefim Volkov, whose paintings evoke a sense of peace and quiet in the viewer, was considered a magnificent songbook of the Russian summer - the pore of the year, which is most difficult to write because of the clogging of landscape elements with greenery of trees and grasses. An example of this are his works "Flower Field", "Landscape with a Pond", "River".

Native landscapes of St. Petersburg

Visiting as an illustrator artist Palestine and the Black Sea coast with friends on the brush, Yefim Volkov always remained true to the beloved landscapes of the marshy areas of Petersburg and the middle Russian strip. In 1895, Yefim Volkov, whose paintings convey the beauty of Russian spaces, was elected to the full membership of the Academy of Arts, and in 1899 he was awarded the title of academician. As time went. Fashion for the art of the Wanderers has sunk into the past, replaced by modernity and impressionism. Disappointed in the public, sharply losing interest in the work of the artists of the Wanderers, the artist Volkov lost weight, sank, became gloomy, but did not change himself and until the end of his days drew marsh landscapes of the surroundings of his beloved Petersburg, finding in them silence, charm and peace.

There was no Russian artist on February 17, 1920.
