Volgograd Planetarium: description, mode of operation, contacts

The Volgograd Planetarium is considered one of the best not only in Russia, but all over the world. It is known for its unusual history and is a major educational center, whose activities are mainly aimed at spreading knowledge about our Earth as a planet, as well as about astronomy and cosmonautics among the younger generation. Over the entire existence of this stellar house, it was visited by over 40 million people.

History

Volgograd Planetarium (Volgograd) appeared in difficult post-war time. The idea of its construction was born in Germany. Workers of this country wished to make a gift for the birthday of the great Generalissimo IV Stalin. The building itself was built for the planetarium in Stalingrad, and all equipment and expensive materials were presented by the workers of the GDR as a symbol of the aspiration of the German people and scientists for progress and peace.

The erection of the structure was carried out in the shortest possible time, and in 1954 all the finishing works were completed. Then the builders started the most difficult stage - installation of complex optical instruments and installation of astronomical devices. This task was completed promptly, and the Volgograd Planetarium was inaugurated in the same year. On that remarkable day in front of his building a grand meeting took place, attended by representatives of public and party organizations.

Description

At present, the Volgograd Planetarium can rightfully be called a center where people are introduced and trained with natural-science knowledge at the highest level. For all its sixty years of activity, this star house has become the best in Russia and is listed in the catalog of the world's largest planetariums, taking eighth place there. Here came guests and delegations from almost all countries.

For all its history, this cultural structure has not lost its scientific importance and is still considered one of the main attractions of its city. Local residents and visitors can see in its premises a lot of interesting and unique. For example, in the main building there is an exhibition of photographs, telling about the achievements and exploits of Soviet cosmonauts. In the same room, you can also see the models of the first artificial Earth satellite and the spacecraft Luna-3.

Having risen in the upper foyer of this building, visitors can get acquainted with the globe of our planet, where its structure is shown, as well as the Foucault pendulum, through which a daily rotation around the Earth is proved. The greatest interest among the spectators who come to the Volgograd Planetarium for the excursion is caused by its other premises, which should be discussed in more detail.

The Star Hall

This room can accommodate up to 460 visitors. Here is a screen that has a dome shape. It shows the audience the starry sky with the help of a special preparation made in Germany. This equipment has various technical capabilities and thanks to it you can see more than six thousand planets and stars of our universe, and simultaneously.

Visitors can also watch how the sky moves, for various phenomena of nature, such as comets and meteors, northern lights and many others. Thanks to the most powerful technologies, in this hall you can fly to vast space expanses and observe the starry sky from the Moon or some other planet, and also visit Jupiter and look at the solar system from the side.

In this room there is still a zoom lens, with which you can see constellations from different angles and unique fragments of movement of the Lunokhod, located on the Moon. Many new impressions can be presented to visitors by the museum "Volgograd Planetarium". The mode of his work is all the more calculated so that people can choose for themselves the optimal time to visit this stellar home.

Observatory

No less interesting place in this cultural and scientific center is the 22-meter tower, where a special telescope with a focus of 5,000 mm and an eight-hundred-fold increase is installed. This optical instrument gives a unique opportunity for all visitors to the astronomical observatory to observe in the daytime the Sun and spots on its surface, during the dark time of the Moon, its craters, "seas" and mountains.

In addition, viewers here can see all the planets from a short distance, star clusters and other galaxies.

Astronomical site

This place is no less interesting than the above-listed rooms of the planetarium. Here grow a lot of trees, flower beds and lawns with beautiful flower beds, among which there are unique astronomical apparatuses. Visitors here can see the ancient sundial, armillary sphere, etc. Each of these exhibits is told in detail during the excursions.

In addition, in the planetarium there is an astronomical section for school-age children, where practical classes and observations of all celestial phenomena occurring in the breadth of Volgograd.

Impressions of visitors

Of course, such excursions and exhibits will be of interest not only to children, but also to their parents. Therefore, many people like to visit the whole family Volgograd Planetarium. Prices for tickets are relatively low: for children - 170 rubles, for adults - 250 rubles, so this family walk does not require a lot of money from the family budget.

All who visited this stellar house were delighted not only with its amazing exhibits, but also with the magnificent architecture of the building itself. The monumentality of this structure is striking. Also, many of the amazing and unique in the planetarium await the youngest visitors. I especially like parents that on weekends there are still lectures for schoolchildren, teaching astronomy.
