Victory Memorial in Krasnoyarsk: Memory Will Live Forever

Every city or village honors the memory of the Great Patriotic War. The names of the heroes are streets, parks and squares, monuments and sculptural compositions are installed in memory of them. One of such facilities - the Victory Memorial in Krasnoyarsk - is our material.

History of the creation of the memorial

The decision to create it was taken at a meeting of the party's regional committee. The occasion was significant - the 30th anniversary of the Victory. Defined and a specific date for its opening - May 9, 1975. The future complex was designed two years earlier. Works on the project were conducted by the leading architects of Krasnoyarsk Alexander Sergeyevich Brusyanin and Vladimir Ivanovich Ulyanov. And of course, the author, the chief architect - Areg Sarkisovich Demirkhanov, the country's deserved architect, is invaluable in working on the Victory Memorial in Krasnoyarsk.

The choice of the location of the complex was not accidental: it is inextricably linked with the events of the war years and is full of deep symbolism. In the early 40-ies there was a city outskirts built up by single-storey wooden houses. From other buildings you can name the school, the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the old cemetery.

As soon as seriously wounded soldiers began to arrive in the city, the need has arisen to re-equip buildings for evacuation hospitals. So, in the premises of the local school there is an evacuation hospital No. 3489. Nowadays it also houses the secondary school.

Medical personnel, despite all the efforts, was not omnipotent: not all the fighters were able to be saved. The burial site of the deceased from the wounds of the soldiers was the site of the military burial site at the old Troitskoye cemetery.

In 1965, the city authorities decided to perpetuate the memory of the Red Army soldiers who died in the Krasnoyarsk hospitals. On the territory of the cemetery, the opening of memorial plates containing the names of 239 soldiers was held. In preparation for the 30th anniversary of the Victory, the memorial plates underwent reconstruction. Thanks to a long and painstaking work, the list was corrected and supplemented. Currently Victory Square holds 640 names of fighters who died from wounds in urban evacuation hospitals. This is the story of the creation of the Victory Memorial in Krasnoyarsk.

Opening of the museum

Thousands of citizens gathered to see the opening of the monument with their own eyes. Hero of the Soviet Union Dmitry Martynov was awarded the honorary right to carry a torch. Currently, his bust is in one of the halls of the memorial. An interesting fact: it was this man who was the last of the war veterans living in the city, bearing the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

When the meeting was over, the residents could visit the memorial building for the first time.

Victory Memorial (Krasnoyarsk): description

According to the idea of the authors, the role of the architectural dominant of the square was given to the building of the memorial - the future museum. On its inner walls listed the names of citizens who died in the war. Between the memorial plates and the building, an eternal flame was placed. Remained preserved in the square monument to an unknown soldier (it was set here earlier). This is how the Victory Memorial in Krasnoyarsk was opened (photo of which we cite in this material) on the Victory Day of 1975.

Reconstruction

Thus, the result of one of the reconstructions was the introduction of significant changes in the lists of the Hall of Remembrance. Today, there are 11 700 names in the lists of the dead and missing soldiers, who were called from the city.

In the future the complex was repeatedly reconstructed: the changes affected the street ensemble of the square, the appearance of the museum building, and its area increased.

For example, during the reconstruction in 2005, the facade of the memorial was altered - a dome was added to it, a previous monument was replaced by a new soldier, a sculptural group called "Front and Rear" (author of both projects - sculptor Konstantin Zinich) appeared.

At the same time, the attitude of the citizens to his activities has changed: the understanding has come that the Victory Memorial in Krasnoyarsk fulfills the function of preserving the memory of specific people. The formation of the museum collection began, the basis of which were archival and biographical materials of WWII participants.

The modern history of the museum

Now everyone has an opportunity to get acquainted with the exposition of the memorial, it was based on those artifacts that were presented by public organizations and residents of the region.

As for the present appearance of the square, a fence was installed behind the tombstones, it divides the square and the cemetery. The place of installation of the monument to an unknown soldier has changed, it is now close to the memorial plates.

The status of the museum was given to the memorial in 1995. His visit is free.

2а ) еще раз напоминает, насколько важным является сохранение памяти о тех трагических и героических страницах летописи как отдельного города, так и всей страны.
