VAZ 14 - reliable "Sputnik"

Release of front-wheel drive cars in the hatchback of the "Sputnik / Samara" series began at the Volzhsky Automobile Plant decades ago. These were the first cars, the appearance and technical characteristics of which went beyond the "classics" that had been produced before. For the end of the last century they looked stylish, the whole look of such a car as if stressed its dynamic qualities and swiftness. Years went by, the car was still as popular, but, as it happens, other heroes began to replace other heroes. All this prompted designers to think that it is fundamentally unreasonable to change anything - the car still enjoyed a good demand. Therefore, it was decided to conduct a deep restyling of the model, which resulted in VAZ 14.

In the serial production four-door hatchback was delivered in 2003, it is planned to finish the production at the end of 2013. After showing VAZ 14 to the general public, the car caused a positive surge of emotions and, as a result, increased sales. It was already another "Sputnik": with a European instrument panel, adjustable steering column, a new interior heater, electric windows and an updated modern design. The exterior was also significantly changed - from the old nine remained only features, the line style was completely updated, the hatchback installed an original spoiler, new bumpers and lighting equipment. The VAZ-14 powerplant underwent a change. The tuning consisted of the installation of a new eight-valve motor (1.5 l) with a fuel injection distribution system. The technical equipment of the new car includes safe glazing and ABS.

In 2007, a fundamentally new power unit (1.6 l) is being installed at VAZ 14. This innovation had a positive impact on the car - now it meets modern requirements, but the catalyst itself is already located not under the bottom, but near the motor. The torpedo and the interior elements of plastic in general are now made of even more rigid material, and a list of options added on-board computer designed specifically for VAZ 14. Tuning such, judging by the sales volume, went to the car for good.

A year later, narrower moldings and a new engine (injector, 1.6 liters, 89 hp) began to be installed on the hatchback doors, which are used to complete the cars produced today. Also, changes have touched the gearbox, in particular, installed a new five-speed transmission, braking and clutch systems. As a result, it was possible to reduce fuel consumption and, importantly, improve the dynamic qualities of the car. Clearance became less, due to which the hatchback became more stable in high-speed corners. Rear seat - folding, which allows you to easily deliver to your destination dimensional cargo.

After all the upgrades VAZ 14 - the model "Samara" - and to this day remains the car for all occasions. It is universal and equally good both in operation in city conditions, and on a high-speed highway. The interior and exterior can hardly be called modern, all the same, Western automakers in this respect have raised the bar high, but there is something in it that is native to it, which to this day makes it a favorite for many admirers.
