Usurper: who is it and how do they become?

Those who were fortunate enough to know the pleasure of reading (and unfortunately, there are not many of them today), in the novels of Victor Hugo or Leo Tolstoy they met the word "usurper". Who is this, clearly from the narrative, refers to Napoleon Bonaparte. At the same time, it is clear from the context of the definition that it has a condemning character, and the Emperor of France himself would not like to wear such a nickname. What does it mean?

Democracy and usurpation

Nowadays, the state structure is considered democratic in the event that the power in it is divided into three branches, when it is three-headed, like a dragon or Snake Gorynych. Legislative bodies, in different countries called dumas, radishes, reichstags, rigsdags, senates and other synonymous linguistic word-formations, as is clear from their general definition, produce codes, amendments, constitutions or changes in them. So they fulfill the will of voters. The second branch is executive, because the best law is absolutely useless, if its observance at least part of the population of the state does not consider it compulsory. And the third power is judicial, which deals with proceedings in cases when normative acts are still violated by certain irresponsible citizens, for whom the opinion of the majority is not so important. These are all the subtleties of state legal science are very important, but what does the usurper have to do with it? The meaning of the Latin word "usurpatio" (possession of something) reflects the opposite of the character of the action of some person worked out by mankind in tortures and mistakes to good democratic traditions.

Usurper. Who is it?

In the rule of law, regardless of the degree of its democracy (this may be a republic, a kingdom, a kingdom, a sultanate of some kind, or a caliphate), during its existence certain social relations are formed that are considered normal, that is, customary. People born under certain orders, brought up on the traditions of their ancestors, know what they can and can not do, even if they do not have a legal education, or one of them even does not know how to read. And then suddenly the power is seized by the usurper. "Who is this, and why does he tell us how to live?" - ordinary citizens ask themselves a question, not hiding their irritation and indignation. At that moment, the new ruler, who had taken over the powers of all the branches of power mentioned and appropriated his right to decide everything alone (a variant of collegiality is possible, if a group of conspirators came to power), will necessarily use force to suppress discontent. Terror is an obligatory companion to usurpation, without tyranny it is impossible.

The most famous usurpers

The most famous of them - the already mentioned Bonaparte, who became the first French emperor, before him in Paris ruled simply kings. The Roman dictator Julius Caesar also seized the one-man power, it was half a century before the birth of Christ. August Octavian founded the great Roman Empire, having seized the throne by not quite correct methods. The same sinned and the English King Henry the Seventh. As a result of the military-palace coup , Empress Catherine II became the emperor, removing her spouse from power.

In the twentieth century, many countries also had their own usurper. Who it was in Russia-Kerensky, who occupied the tsar's quarters, Lenin, who arrested the Provisional Government or Stalin, who gradually dealt with the Politburo of Lenin's recruitment, is up to the historians, but to some extent each of them falls under this definition. Mussolini, Hitler and even General De Gaulle, who took over the reins of government and leveled out the operation of democratic institutions, also have a dubious honor to be called so. This is not to mention other dictators, at times tyrants (like the Haitian Duvalier), or fiery revolutionaries from Latin American countries. Sometimes usurpation is a useful and even necessary measure, especially when the country is close to total collapse. But the consequences of such actions have to be judged by results.

Computer usurper

The hero of the computer game is a phantom usurper. It has its own virtual attributes, namely: armor, knives, belts, boots, gloves and even such exotic items of equipment as bracers. As it often happens, players do not think about the ethical side of the subject of their hobby, it is important for them to achieve the coveted level and to capture as much as possible. Gamers can only wish success in their occupation.
