The drug "Ursofalk" is a hepatoprotector, which has a very broad spectrum of action. The drug is able to have not only hepatoprotective, but also cholelitholytic and immunomodulating action. In addition, it leads to a decrease in the level of cholesterol in the blood.

The main active substance of ursofalk is ursodeoxycholic acid, which is present in the bile. With certain violations, the synthesis of this acid is reduced. The mechanisms of matter are very diverse, so we will single out only the main ones. The meaning of the choleretic action is to regulate the amount of hydrophobic bile acids and increase their excretion into the intestine. So, the drug reduces the absorption of toxic hydrophobic acids in the bile. The cytoprotective effect is based on the ability of the active component to be incorporated into the lipid layer of the cell membrane. This stabilizes the cell membrane and improves its protective properties. The effect of ursophane as an immunomodulating agent is due to the fact that ursodeoxycholic acid reduces the expression of certain molecules on hepatocytes, as well as pro-inflammatory cytokines.

In addition, ursodeoxycholic acid reduces the lithogenicity of bile by forming liquid crystals with the cholesterol molecule.
