Uninterruptible power supply for computer

PC users often have problems with the power of the computer, which often lead to the failure of individual elements, and they sometimes cost a lot of money. In order to reduce the risk of equipment failures, users purchase uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). If in your home power failures occur quite often, it is better to spend on the UPS, then pay for repairs, and then buy, for example, a new motherboard.

Built-in uninterruptible power supply for the computer battery will allow you to properly shut down the device in the event of a power outage. Agree that it is not very pleasant when the power supply disappears at the most inopportune moment.

Before you select a power supply for your computer, you need to know the following:

1. Failures of what kind occur in your home and how often they can be observed. Agree, there is no point in buying an expensive UPS with a high degree of protection, if there is practically no electricity failure in your house, and you have decided to buy an uninterruptible power supply for the computer for a backup.

2. The power of all the equipment that you are going to protect. Having learned this, it is necessary to choose such a UPS, in which this parameter will exceed the power of the entire system by 20-30 percent. You can also buy an uninterrupted power supply for a computer with a margin, in case you suddenly decide to change the equipment to a more powerful one.

3. The battery life, which you need to complete all the computer processes. Normal UPS runs 5-7 minutes off-line.

4. How many pieces of equipment are you going to connect to an uninterruptible power supply. In accordance with this, and should choose an uninterrupted power supply for the computer, so that it is enough for all the devices that you are going to connect to it. If you use a modem, make sure that the telephone line is also protected.

It is important to know that all UPSs are conditionally divided into three types:

1. Uninterruptible power supply unit, offline.

This is the simplest and cheapest type. During the power failure, the self-powered backup power supply is in the form of a voltage converter powered by a battery. However, for this type of UPS, the voltage is not corrected when the latter value is exceeded by 180-250 volts, since the stabilizer is absent here.

2. Linear-interactive uninterruptible power supply for the computer.

This type has an automatic voltage regulator, which allows it to work with a voltage in the range from 160 to 290 volts. Typically, these units have related software, which allows you to automatically turn off the computer software if the battery level will tend to zero.

3. UPS type online.

This type constantly converts the mains voltage into a constant, and then into an alternating current, generates energy in real time, which means that no switching takes place. These are the most reliable uninterruptible power supplies that are used for servers. Typically, for ordinary PC users this type of device is not practical.
