Tyumen Drama Theater: history, repertoire, troupe

The Bolshoi Tyumen Drama Theater has existed for a long time, from the end of the 19th century. In his repertoire, dramas, comedies, musical performances and fairy tales for children, staging classical plays and works by contemporary playwrights.

History

The Tyumen Drama Theater was opened in 1858. Its creation was a great event for the city. The initiator of the opening of the theater was the merchant Kondraty Sheshukov. The performances were amateur, since the professional troupe in Tyumen at that time was not. The first performance was very popular with the audience, the artists played it the whole year and all this time the hall was full. The troupe consisted of teachers, merchants and prominent citizens. The money earned from the performances was used for the material support of the women's gymnasium. In 1890 the merchant Andrey Teuttiev became the troupe's tutor.

During the years of its existence the Tyumen Drama Theater changed its name many times, and various names were assigned to it. In 1944 he received the status of regional. In his repertoire there were already various and different genre performances. On his stage, plays were played on the works of Russian and foreign classics, musical performances, historical dramas and revolutionary productions.

Previously, the Tyumen Drama Theater was located along Herzen Street. Today it is located at: ul. Republic, house number 192. The new building of the theater has five floors, a beautiful facade and columns. The area of the premises is 36 thousand square meters. Now the theater is called "Great Drama", because now it really is the largest in terms of area in our country. There are two auditoriums here. Large accommodates up to 800 people. The capacity of the small hall is 200 spectators. The new building of the theater was erected in record time - about two years.

The Tyumen drama actively participates in festivals, as well as in various other events, both interregional and international.

Today the theater has set itself another task - the erection of a monument to the great countryman, People's Artist GI. To Diakonov-Dyachenkov.
