Types of generators: synchronous, asynchronous, inverter

In the modern market there are several types of electric generators: synchronous, asynchronous, inverter. Despite one purpose, they have significant differences, which directly affects the production of energy. Let's get to the specifics of each type of generator.

In the store, you need to specify which type of generator belongs to: synchronous or asynchronous.

The most important thing about synchronous generators

The synchronous type generator is an aggregate operating in the power generation mode. Its peculiarity is the equal frequency of rotation of the magnetic field of the starter with respect to the rotor speed. Magnetic poles together with the rotor generate a rotating magnetic field, which, after passing through the winding of the starter, forms an electromotive force in it. In a generator of this type, the rotor is an electromagnet or a permanent magnet.

Such a design feature gives the synchronous generator such advantages as:

  • Almost complete immunity to short-term or start-up overloads;
  • A current of higher quality with a stable voltage is formed;
  • The generated voltage has a correct sine wave.

The main disadvantage of synchronous generators is their susceptibility to moisture and dust.

Generators of the synchronous type are recommended to be used if it is necessary to supply devices having a high starting current, for example, pumps, circular saws. Power plants of this class are also desirable to use for connecting household appliances.

The main thing about asynchronous generators

A mobile power plant of an asynchronous type is an engine that uses the braking mode for operation. This means that the rotor and the magnetic field of the starter rotate in one direction, but with a certain amount of advance. The rotating magnetic field can not be reconfigured, so that the output frequency and voltage always depend on the rotor speed.

The advantages of generators of an asynchronous class are:

  • High resistance to short circuits;
  • The presence of automatic adjustment smooths out the voltage surges;
  • The factor is at the level of 2%, so energy is generated without the release of harmful constituents;
  • When generating energy, a small amount of heat is released.

The main negative nuance of asynchronous power plants is that they do not tolerate starting currents.

Select an asynchronous type diesel power plant is recommended for connecting electric welding, as this ensures a more even seam. They are resistant to moisture and dust and therefore can work smoothly at various enterprises, construction sites, streets. Asynchronous power plants should be connected devices for which the voltage and frequency of the current does not play an important role.

In shops both synchronous and asynchronous generators are sold

What are the features of the inverter generator?

An inverter-type generator is a mechanism in which current is generated by an internal combustion engine, and then it is sent to the power electronics, where it is transformed into a permanent one and charges the built-in battery. After this, the direct current must be transformed again into an alternating current. To do this, in the chain after the battery there is an inverter, which generates at the output 220 V at a frequency of 50 Hz.

The advantages of this design are a more economical fuel consumption, because the generator can not support the same speed of rotation of the shaft. In addition, the speed of rotation may be low, but this will be enough to fully charge the battery. And the lower the rotation speed, the less the generator consumes fuel. The inverter system allows to receive a stable level of electric power, and therefore additional measures of machinery protection will not be needed.

Inverter generators are considered the most economical, since they are able to adapt to the actual load. If it is small, then the generator automatically switches to the economical operation of the engine.

Among the drawbacks of the inverter generator is worth mentioning the battery. If it breaks, the generator will not be repaired, and you will have to replace it with a new one. Also worth noting is the high cost of an inverter-type generator. For it you will have to pay twice as much as for a synchronous or asynchronous type.

An inverter-type generator is necessary for connecting highly sensitive equipment: computers, microwave ovens, boiler equipment, modern audio and video equipment.

As a result, it turns out that to connect most of the household appliances it is worthwhile to use synchronous generators, it is recommended to buy asynchronous models to connect equipment, and for inductive devices it is necessary to buy inverter power.
