Tver Region: attractions of Ostashkov

Ostashkov is the administrative center of Ostashkovsky district and is located on the shore of the picturesque lake Seliger. The history of the city totals about five centuries, therefore it is very attractive for tourists. Ostashkov's sights are numerous churches, churches, parks, museums and simply unique buildings.

Historical essay

If you describe the city in a nutshell, you can say that this is a typical district town that has preserved the features of the past centuries. Settlement in this region arose in the XIV century on the island of Klichen, however, it was not destined to exist for a long time. Already in 1393 it was looted and burned by Novgorodians. Once again life began to boil only after the founding of the Nilo-Stolbnetsky Monastery. Around this shrine began to settle people, here were opened workshops and shops, and the city began to revive, increase and prosper. Already in the XVIII century Ostashkov became the largest shopping center, the settlement began to rapidly build up. Particular attention here deserves the planning of the city, which is now preserved almost in its original form. In those days it became an exemplary one, however, most of the county cities in our country were built on this principle.

Temples of the city

As already mentioned, Ostashkova's sights are first of all churches and cathedrals. By the way, there are quite a few of them for a small city. It is worth to visit the Znamensky Monastery. It now does not function according to its main purpose, but here you can see the picturesque Ascension Cathedral, and near it there is a huge number of old houses where different structures or people live.

Bogoroditsky monastery is another reason to visit the town of Ostashkov. The sights of this place amaze even the most demanding tourists. The temple was founded in the XVIII century by the order of Peter I. On its square one can see several churches that were erected during the same period. Today, the temple is undergoing reconstruction, and in a couple of years the monastery will be seen in all its glory.

If you are in Ostashkov, then do not forget to also look into the ancient Trinity Cathedral. It was founded in the XVII century, but its internal and external appearance was changed many times, in its original form, unfortunately, it did not survive.

It is worth noting that not only the shrines can boast the town of Ostashkov (Tver region). The sights of the village are also numerous museums. The history museum and local traditions will best be told by the local history museum.

In the city there is also a small fish museum. This institution is quite young, it has not even ten years. However, there are very interesting and informative excursions here. The guide will tell you about the local inhabitants of Seliger, about the traditions of catching and cooking fish.

The Ostrog museum is located in the former prison building. His expositions, of course, are devoted to prison business. Here is collected a number of subjects from the history of Ostrog. At the request of tourists, they are held in all the premises of the former dungeon.

Nilo-Stolbetskaya deserts

It was created at the end of the XVII century. And immediately became an attractive object for hundreds of pilgrims. And already at the beginning of the 20th century more believers came here, than in any other shrine of Russia. The exterior of the temple is really amazing: the complex consists of 20 buildings, which are executed in a pompous palace-Petersburg style. Be sure to visit this most beautiful monastery if you decide to visit Ostashkov! Sights (the photo of the bell of this shrine is shown below) of the temple does not end there. Everyone can go up to the bell tower and from there look at the amazing panorama of the city, the villages, the lake and other temples.

Parks

Ostashkov's sights are also picturesque parks and squares. On the island of Klichen there is a unique park-museum, where in miniature all the nature of the region is collected. Better places for walking and recreation in the city simply can not be found.

Unusual constructions

A very remarkable building is the building where the fire brigade was located. In 1843 the first voluntary fire brigade was organized in the city. It is this structure and to this day uses the local fire department. Since then, of course, it has changed its appearance, however, even considering this fact, it was not deprived of the status of a historical monument.

You have another wonderful occasion to visit Ostashkov (Tver region). The sights of the city are a number of buildings built in the XVIII-XIX century. True, most of them are not in the best condition, because they were built of wood, but it still does not hurt to admire their amazing views.

The Val column

The favorite sight of travelers is the Valsky Pillar. It was installed after the Ostashkovka fortress burnt down in this place in 1711. This monument is made in the classical style. On its walls you can see icons and paintings. Near the fortress was a chapel. For a very long time, the icon of St. Barbara was kept in it, which is considered to be the patroness of sailors, water experts and fishermen in the Orthodox faith. Near the icon there was a lamp, where the fishermen prayed and asked for a good catch. After nationalization, the chapel was barbarously destroyed.

The Pyramid of Hunger

Ostashkov's sights, of course, are of great interest, however in the vicinity of the city there are also a lot of amazing places. In Ostashkinsky district, not far from the village of Chitino, there is a massive pyramid, the silhouette of which can be seen from the road. This structure is named after Alexander Golod, who spent his whole life studying pyramids and the proportions of the so-called golden section. At first it may seem very heavy and built of stone, but if you go inside, it immediately becomes clear that the construction is made of very light material. An unusual construction was created in 1997 and has a height of twenty-two meters. There is an opinion that if you stay in the middle of a building for a long time, you can get rid of many ailments and feel a surge of energy. True, the evidence that the pyramid can heal does not exist yet. But it is reliably known that in this structure there are actually some vibrations that can affect a person. Now the pyramids of Alexander Golod are located in many cities of Russia. Many scientists believe that there is an abnormal zone in this structure , so here the most extraordinary phenomena can occur.

The source of the Volga

In the village of Volgoverkhovie, the majestic Volga River originates . This small spring has a picturesque chapel. Not far from the source is also the Olginsky Monastery and the picturesque stone fortress. In 1.5 km from the village there is the village of Mosets, where the walls of the Peter and Paul Fortress are preserved. Here you can see a very beautiful painting.

After all that you have read, you are probably already thinking about how to visit Ostashkov. The attractions of this region certainly deserve your attention.
