To whom are Orthodox Christians praying to marry?

Who should pray to be married? This theme causes a smile of its unmodernity and naivety - so to be married unbearably! At first glance it seems that this, in fact, is some kind of anachronism. Now, marriage is not the only object of interest for a girl - you can study, you can make a career, you can finally just meet a young man without tying yourself in marriage. But this freedom of choice does not fit all, and certainly does not fit believing girls.

A hundred years ago, undoubtedly, it was marriage and the degree of its success that set the direction of the woman's entire life. Actually, she could choose only from three options - either monasticism, or marriage, or stay in the "centuries", the old virgins. A sad prospect!

The first way has always been the lot of the elect, the third was an analogue of the modern concept of "loser". Therefore - get married, of course! At that time, divorce was a rare occurrence, the marriage was literally for life - until the death of one of the spouses.

Nothing wrong with wanting to find your soul mate, from the standpoint of the Bible, no. It is not good for a man to be alone, says God in the second chapter of Genesis. The first commandment that Adam and Eve received in Paradise was: "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the Earth." The state of love is wordy and poetically described by King Solomon in the Song of Songs. The apostle Paul speaks of an ideal love that "covers everything, believes everything, hopes everything, tolerates everything and never ceases."

How do you want to find such love in your family! The role of a married lady, the mother of a large family, the beloved friend of a hardworking and virtuous husband, has always been venerable.

But ... there was a problem that did not disappear in the believer, and in general Any girl and to this day - how to find such a husband? It is worth remembering that a believer has very limited opportunities for dating and flirting. Therefore, God's help, the help of a heavenly intercessor is very much needed!

To whom are they praying to get married? Here we enter the area of near-church myths - a comical one comes to mind: "Holy Catherine, send me a nobleman!"

But grandmothers at any temple will certainly enlighten everyone who wishes, what icon to pray to get married.

It's good to remember that, probably, the most important virtue of a believing person is meekness and humility before God's will. And to whom do they pray to marry, but to the Lord? After all, the believer daily repeats: "Thy will be done." And if God's will has not yet led her to get acquainted with her future husband, then, probably, it is necessary to show humility and wait. Perhaps this will only benefit the impatient lady.

Secondly, for the believing person, the absurdity is the expression "to pray to the icon." They pray not the icon, it is only "the visible image of the invisible." To whom are they praying to get married? The saint, portrayed on the icon, he is asked for help and intercession before God.

A significant part of the legends that if you apply a certain icon on a certain day, and then conduct some kind of ritual, you should refer to the near-church folklore, with which the church itself struggles in every possible way.

And yet, if you really want to - who pray to marry a worthy person, Orthodox Christians? Is there a "specialization" among the saints, and who, apart from, of course, Christ and the Virgin, ask for happiness in his personal life? Fathers of the Church and, after them, the parish priests are advised to ask for help and advice from that saint whose life path is similar to his own.

Christianity knows the saints who were married and lived happily in virtuous life. These are the parents of the Holy Mother of God. Joachim and Anna, St. Peter and Fevronya of Murom, St. Adrian and St. Natalia, St. Juliana Lazarevskaya.

There are no special prayers on this score, but prayer comes from the heart, and domestic prayer is not chained in the chain of convention. Especially since Christ said: "Ask, and it will be given to you, seek, and you will find, knock, and it will be opened to you."
