Thyroiditis of thyroid gland, symptoms and treatment

Thyroiditis of the thyroid gland is an inflammation that leads to the formation of lymphocytes and antibodies in the body that are in conflict with their own cells, which causes their death. This disease is usually affected by people from 40 to 50, although, according to recent data, these days thyroiditis is manifested even in young people and children.

Types of the disease

The disease can refer to one of the following types:

  • Chronic thyroiditis of the thyroid gland develops as a result of an increase in antibodies and lymphocytes of a particular form, which cause the death of thyroid cells. This is the impetus to reduce the amount of hormones it produces. The form of the disease has a pronounced genetic dependence.
  • Postpartum thyroiditis is most common. The disease provokes an organism overload during pregnancy.
  • The painless autoimmune thyroiditis of the thyroid gland is an analogue of the postpartum, but the cause of the appearance of the disease has not yet been revealed.
  • The "cytokine-induced" type occurs when a diagnosis of "Hepatitis C", as well as blood diseases, if treated with interferon.

Causes of thyroiditis

Additional factors that cause thyroid thyroiditis are:

  • Previous respiratory diseases;
  • The influence of harmful environmental factors, excessive consumption of iodine, chlorine and fluorine in water and food;
  • Foci of chronic infection (teeth, palatine tonsils, sinuses of the nose);
  • stress;
  • Increased radiation background or prolonged exposure to the sun;
  • Uncontrolled intake of iodine-containing and hormonal drugs.

Thyroiditis of the thyroid gland. What are the symptoms?

Most often, pronounced symptoms are absent. Sometimes the patient complains of fatigue, weakness, joint pain, unpleasant sensations in the throat and feeling of pressure in the area of inflammation. Postpartum thyroiditis of the thyroid gland is accompanied by a sharp weakness, fatigue and a sharp loss of weight. Very often the failure in the functioning of the thyroid gland is manifested by a feeling of heat, tachycardia, excessive sweating, insomnia and unstable mood of the patient. There is almost no cytokine-induced thyroiditis, it is detected only in laboratory studies. Bezbolovoy thyroiditis causes mild disorders in the thyroid gland.

Thyroiditis of the thyroid gland. How to treat?

The disease is currently difficult to treat. The thyrotoxic phase is characterized by the release of thyroid hormones and destroyed follicular cells into the blood. In this period, drugs that suppress the activity of the body are not yet prescribed. For violations in the cardiovascular system, beta-blockers are used. Subacute thyroiditis is treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Metindol, Voltaren, Indomethacin). Surgical intervention in this disease is indicated in case of a sharp increase in the gland. If thyroiditis occurs almost asymptomatically, but the diagnosis is established, the patient should be observed at the doctor to prevent the manifestation of hypothyroidism.
