There are several ways how to draw gouache

Gouache is called not only water paint, based on finely chopped pigments, but also paintings that are painted with this paint. Basically, drawing gouache is taken on paper, but often it is written on canvas, and on cardboard, and on wood, and other surfaces. It's all about its density. Due to the astringent consistency, this paint falls very well, but because it is diluted with water, it is also easy to wash it off. If you compare gouache with other water-soluble paints, you can identify both advantages and disadvantages. In comparison with watercolor, gouache is more easy to use, as its properties allow you to prescribe light tones over dark ones, and also apply layers of paint to create some velvety. To put it simply, an unsuccessfully painted watercolor drawing is almost impossible to save, and a gouache one is more real.

The technique of drawing gouache is very similar to the technique of drawing with acrylic. In terms of consistency, these paints are also similar, but acrylic, although diluted with water, will not be washed away from the surface within ten minutes. Gouache completely dries in two or three hours, but even after that it can easily be smeared with water. This paint is also good because during drawing it can not be diluted to make the layer as thick as possible. If you are interested in how to draw gouache, here are a few simple and cheerful ways.

  1. The classic method, where brushes are used, is preferably medium hardness, elastic, of goat pile or horsehair. Too hard brush will leave uneven, steep edges, and too soft will not be able to smear the thick paint well. Before drawing gouache, a sheet of paper does not hurt to slightly moisten.
  2. A little non-standard way with which you can make an unusual background or a cheerful, bright abstraction. To do this, take a regular foam sponge, a little damp it in water and apply one or more colors of paint to it. Now, with this colored sponge, paint the sheet as you like, or draw textured circles, squares, flowers or something else.
  3. Children can very much like the following way how to draw gouache, but you, as a parent, should be near, because a candle will be used here. Its wax can be dripped on a sheet, which then and to sink. It turns out something patchy, but very unusual.
  4. There is a safer method than with a candle. It will take all O only glue PVA in a jar with a thin spout on the lid. With this glue, a thin line, we apply the desired pattern, let it dry well, and then gouache the sheet. You can even use not a brush, but a colored sponge, as in the second method.
  5. And another interesting option, how to draw gouache. First, a sheet of paper must be completely painted with wax crayons (one color or several), the top is applied with a gouache layer, and, until it is dry, a toothpick "scratch out" the pattern. It turns out very unusual.

But still the gouache has a couple of drawbacks. Firstly, when the color dries, the colors become lighter shades, and secondly, the drawings written by it (especially on paper) are short-lived, because over time the paint dries up and can crumble. Therefore, it is appropriate to store such masterpieces under glass.
