The relationship between Oblomov and Olga in IA Goncharov's novel Oblomov

The novel "Oblomov" is the most striking work of IA Goncharov. The author worked on it for more than 10 years. The main storyline of the Oblomov work is the story of Ilya Ilyich's love for Olga Ilyinskaya. About such people are often said that they are made from different dough. Nevertheless, it often happens that life confronts completely opposite people. Let's try to understand what these two characters are, and we will analyze why this was the relationship between Oblomov and Olga.

The way of life of Ilya Ilyich

Oblomov's life is most likely to be called inactive. He does not much interest, does not go anywhere, does not read books. The hero's favorite pastime is lying in a dressing gown on the couch. He just does not see the point in the activity, Oblomov likes to dream.

Coming to visit his friend, Andrei Ivanovich Stolz, - the opposite of the main character. He is trying to make a difference in his life. The relationship between Oblomov and Olga began precisely because of him.

Acquaintance with Olga

So, Stolz tries to stir Oblomov. Together they go on a visit, Stolz forces him to read, introduces an interesting girl, who turned out to be Olga Ilyinskaya.

This acquaintance awakens strong feelings in the main character. He explains the girl in love. Oblomov and Olga, whose relationships, it would seem, could not have started at all, nevertheless began to meet. The girl considers love to Ilya Ilyich as her duty. She wants to change it, make it live differently.

Changes in the life of Oblomov

The life of the main character has really changed. He starts to conduct quite an active activity. Ilya Ilyich now rises at seven in the morning, reading. On the face there are paints, fatigue completely disappears.

Love for Olga makes Oblomov show better qualities. As Goncharov remarks, Ilya Ilyich, in some measure, "caught up with life."

However, solving practical problems still weighs on him. He is not interested in building a house in Oblomovka, leading a road to the village. Moreover, the relationship between Oblomov and Olga gives rise to a lack of confidence in their abilities, in themselves. Then he comes to the realization that Olga does not love him. She is demanding, persistent, strict, exacting. The holiday of love turned into a debt, even in a duty.

The relationship between Oblomov and Olga ends, he again puts on a robe and leads the old way of life.

Olga Ilyinskaya and Agafya Pshenitsyna

In his novel Goncharov writes about two women who loved Oblomov. The first, Olga Ilyinskaya, is active, educated. She sings well, is interested in art, literature and science. Possessing high spiritual qualities, she was able to understand the nobility of the soul of Oblomov. However, Olga sees the shortcomings in the nature of Ilya Ilyich. She does not like his passivity, lack of mobility, laziness. She loves, rather, her noble mission, due to which the spiritual revival of the protagonist should happen. The girl is not devoid of vanity. She is pleased with the thought that she will be the cause of his "awakening".

It is because of the fact that there was a lot of desire in this love to remake the other, parted Oblomov and Olga. Relationships based on claims and claims to another person are doomed to failure.

The perfect opposite of Olga was Agafya Matveyevna Pshenitsyna - the second woman who loved Oblomov. Of course, she did not have the education of Ilinsky and did not understand his mind, did not see spiritual wealth. Agafya Matveyevna fed him deliciously and simply made Ilya Ilyich's life comfortable.

Women's ideal of Oblomov

The girl's disparity with Ilya Ilyich's ideals is another reason why Olga Ilyinskaya and Oblomov could not be together. The relationship of these heroes was based on the worship of beauty and an ambitious desire to remake a loved one.

It's no secret that in love we often look for those ideals that we have learned from our childhood. Demanding Olga encourages Oblomov to act, reflect, and he seeks the harmony and peace that a beloved woman can provide.

Olga Ilyinskaya and Oblomov, whose relationships did not last long, are getting acquainted, as we remember, through a common acquaintance of Andrei Stolts. This girl breaks into his life and for some time tears out of a world of inaction and dreams.

Agafya Matveyevna - the owner of the apartment, which Oblomov took off, appears in his life as something quite ordinary, almost imperceptible. The protagonist likes to talk a little with her, he notes her economy, even temper. However, it does not cause any excitement in his soul.

Unlike Olga, Agafya Matveyevna does not try to elevate Oblomov to her ideal, she considers him to be a man of better breed than herself. As is known, for a man it is important that he is loved as he is, without trying to remake. Agafya Matveyevna becomes for Oblomov personification of female virtue.

The relationship between Oblomov and Olga Ilyinskaya was built on her ideas of happiness. Agafya Matveyevna thought only of the comfort and convenience of Ilya Ilyich. Olga constantly forced Oblomov to act, for her sake he had to step over himself. Agafia Matveyevna, on the contrary, tries to save the main character from unnecessary trouble. She even pawns her property so that Oblomov will not abandon his favorite habits.

The relationship between Oblomov and Olga Ilyinskaya was not possible because of the discrepancy between these two characters. Goncharov brings us to the understanding that it was Agafia Matveyevna who embodied the ideal of the woman of the main character. He married this kind, hard-working woman. Life with Olga would not bring happiness to him or her, because their goals are completely different.

Life with Agafia Matveyevna became for Oblomov an embodiment of family happiness: calmness, satiety, comfort. With her, Ilya Ilyich as if returned in the happy days of his childhood, filled with the love and care of her mother.
