The largest sea

Man has always been attracted to the unknown. And the sea as a component of this mysterious world was especially inviting. Being a part of the World Ocean, they differ in size, depth, time and way of formation, level of salinity, each has its own unique flora and fauna.

At the location of the sea are internal, marginal and inter-island. And geologists divide them into those formed in those places where a large fault of the earth's crust was located, and located on the continental shelf, which arose when the waters of the World Ocean flooded the marginal parts of the continents.

Scientists have not yet reached a consensus on the number of seas in the world. And the fault of this is the question of what to count as the sea. Should we refer to this notion internal huge water bodies, for example, the Caspian and the Dead, or are these lakes all the same? And what about the part of the ocean that is limited only by currents?

What is the largest sea, and what is the smallest? What is the deepest, and what is the smallest in the world? It always gave birth to millions of questions.

The largest sea in the area is part of the Atlantic Ocean. His name is Sargassovo, and the area is about seven million square kilometers. There are also distinctive features peculiar only to him: the largest sea has no coasts, and its boundaries determine the warm current of the Gulf Stream, in addition, its waters are the most transparent, and the surface is covered with brown algae.

The deepest sea in the world is the Philippines. Being a Pacific oceanic inter-island, it is located between groups of the Japanese and Philippine islands and the island of Taiwan. Taking into account the Mariana Trench, its (maximum) eleven-kilometer-long depth beat all the records. But those scientists who believe that the sea must necessarily have a beach (and Sargasso does not have it), argue that the Philippine is not only the deepest, but also the largest sea in the world. Its area is more than 5 million square kilometers.

Following the Philippine in the ranking of the deepest seas is Coral. It is also located in the Pacific Ocean and is washed by Australia, New Guinea and New Caledonia. The maximum depth here is more than nine kilometers. And the main distinctive feature gave the name to the sea. The countless number of corals that impede the movement of ships, the immense depth, and the high temperature of water reaching 28 degrees, is what the Coral Sea singles out. The species composition of the inhabitants also makes it especially special: mollusks - more than three thousand species, various fish - two thousand species, echinoderms, including poisonous, dangerous for humans - three hundred species, sharks - in huge numbers.

But as there is the largest sea, the deepest, so scientists have determined the smallest. In the ranking the last place was occupied by the Yellow Sea, which is the smallest in area (416 thousand square kilometers) and the smallest. Its name it received from the color of water. It is the yellow color flows to the sea of Chinese rivers and the same color dust carry storms, the strength of which is able to stop shipping for a while.

As for the level of salinity, the largest sea is not the most salty. Here the palm tree was given to the Red Sea. It is this, without having an external influx of fresh river streams, for many years concentrated the greatest amount of salt in its waters. This made it not only the most salty, but also one of the warmest with its stunning flora and fauna water world.

The unlimited power of the sea, which gives us the means of survival and is capable of destroying, has always awakened the creative principle in man. Tales were written about the sea, pictures were written, verses were devoted to him. And the secrets of the seabed will be studied for many years by the best scientists of the world.
