Burdock, otherwise called burdock (Arctium in Latin), is a two-year-old plant of the family of Compositae with large fleshy leaves. It grows almost everywhere, and sometimes people treat it too scornfully, considering it a useless weed. This is a completely wrong point of view. Burdock, the application of which is in medicine and in cosmetology, is a very valuable medicine, useful in solving a number of problems. In addition, it is just a beautiful plant that is interesting to botanists and lovers of the flora. I must say that in Europe it was only learned about him in the 19th century, when Russian troops, who were pursuing Napoleon, brought in burdock.

Remembering burdock, healing properties and its application, it is worth noting that the decoction of the roots of this plant contains valuable inulin, as well as essential oil, organic acids and a number of other useful substances. In addition, pastes and the same broths from the roots of burdock are used in the treatment of gout, rheumatism and skin problems. As a medicinal raw material, plant leaves and roots are collected in the first year of life.

In the roots there are essential oils, glycosides, tannins, proteins and mineral salts, as well as organic acids, resins, vitamins and inulin. The leaves are also famous for ascorbic acid.

In addition to diuretic and diaphoretic, this plant has analgesic, antiallergic, choleretic, antiseptic, antimicrobial and disinfectant effects. It also affects the functions of the pancreas, the composition of the blood, removes urea, improves the general condition of the skin and, in particular, helps fight the skin itching.

Burdock, whose use in medicine has been strengthened for a very long time and firmly, is a part of medicines for gout, colds, inflammations of the kidneys, remedies used for gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, with gastritis, urolithiasis and cholelithiasis. A good effect is achieved in the treatment of seborrhea, eczema, dermatitis and acne, as well as healing wounds, cuts, burns.

Tincture of burdock root, the use of which is quite often, can be made at home. For this, the raw material must be crushed, poured hot water, insisted for two hours, then filtered and consumed (half a cup three times a day). By the way, the leaves of this plant are applied with a headache. They are very effective for bursitis (for example, they are applied to the elbow, a plastic bag is placed on top, a layer of heat-insulating material, for example, foam rubber, then the elbow is wrapped in an elastic bandage).

Burdock, the application of which is widely known and in cosmetology, is ideal for strengthening hair. For this you need to make oil out of it. Take a fresh root, cut and poured with any vegetable oil. All this is insisted for a day, and then it is cooked over a slow fire for fifteen minutes. Now you need to strain, cool and apply in masks, mixtures or in pure form. Thus, burdock, the application of which is very wide, for all its simplicity is really an irreplaceable plant.
