The correct precursors of garlic - the guarantee of a good harvest

At first glance, it seems that it is quite difficult to grow good garlic. Many believe that this culture is very fastidious to the conditions of growing and planting. In fact, everything is much simpler. Knowing a few tricks, you can grow excellent garlic without much effort.

The need to change cultures

A huge role in the cultivation of this product is played by the precursors of garlic. Almost all vegetable crops need fruit rotation. Thus, the soil is not depleted, but, on the contrary, enriched by all the necessary elements. An important detail in choosing the predecessors of a vegetable is the root length of the plant. Every year on the same site it is recommended to plant vegetables with different length of the root part. Thus, each of the plants exhausts the soil at different levels.

Garlic has a fairly short root, which means that the precursor for garlic should be with a long root system. An excellent option can be a vegetable such as zucchini. It has a very powerful root system. In addition, before planting courgettes, as a rule, the earth is saturated with potassium. A primer for garlic, too, needs a lot of potassium. An important factor in planting garlic is the acidity of the soil: this vegetable grows only in non-acid soil.

Fertilizer before planting garlic

It is not recommended to use organic fertilizers before planting garlic. This vegetable is very sensitive to various fungal diseases. Together with such a fertilizer, many different fungi enter the soil, capable of damaging the heads of garlic. It is allowed to use mineral fertilizers in small quantities. Many gardeners strongly say that the precursors of garlic are organic. For example, an organic fertilizer is brought to a plot of land and cucumbers or zucchini are planted. In July, these vegetables are harvested and give the earth a rest. Approximately a few weeks before the beginning of a cold snap in this area, you can plant garlic.

The bad precursors of garlic

Not all vegetables can be the precursors of garlic. It is not recommended to plant garlic where there was a bow or carrot before. Onions belong to the same family as garlic, and impoverish the soil on the necessary elements. As for carrots, even though it belongs to another family and has a longer root, it depletes the soil very much. If you plant garlic after carrots and onions, then the harvest will be very scarce. It is also undesirable to plant it after potatoes and beets.

Good precursor plants

The best precursors for garlic are cereals and winter herbs. As a rule, oats, barley, wheat, alfalfa, clover have a good root system. Due to this, they extract useful elements from deep layers of soil to higher ones. The use of cereals and winter herbs as predecessors is called "green fertilizer". After the crops grow 15-20 cm, the site is dug together with the overgrown plants, and the land is preparing for the landing of garlic.

In addition to the fact that after the grain the soil is saturated with many elements, a powerful root system clogs various weeds and weeds. Another advantage of cereals is that they kill various kinds of fungi and other pathogens. Thus, the use of cereals and winter herbs not only saturates the soil with all the necessary elements, but also disinfects it.

When to plant garlic

As a rule, garlic is planted either in early spring or in autumn. It depends on the variety and the expected date of harvest. Spring garlic (it is also called spring wheat) sips longer than winter and has a lower yield. However, this garlic is much better kept. The precursors of spring garlic are cereals and winter herbs. And the scallops, zucchini, cabbage are the precursors of garlic for winter planting.

For spring garlic, for example, at the end of August a plot of land is planted with wheat. After sprouting 15-20 cm, mow down and dig through the site. The land rests and hibernates in this form, and in the early spring on this site it is possible to start planting spring garlic.

Winter garlic is planted in areas where the precursors of garlic grew during the winter. It is very important that before the landing of the vegetable the ground rested in a dug out look for at least a few weeks.
