The Angel Falls are the pearl of Latin America.

The highest waterfall in the world is recognized as Angel - waterfall, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

The height of this natural phenomenon reaches 979 meters. This is officially accepted data, according to other sources its height is 1054 meters, and the height of the water flow is 807 meters. The world famous Niagara Falls is twenty times lower than the Angel Falls and is much inferior in height to it. Angel is so high that the falling streams of water do not even reach the bottom. In the air, water is transformed into a fog, billions of droplets of which are scattered a few kilometers from the waterfall. Only a minimal amount of water reaches the bottom and enters the river.

The Angel Falls are in the jungle of Venezuela, in the Canaima National Park. It has several names: in English - "Angel", the locals call it "Churummer", and in 2009 the President of Venezuela formally called him "Cerepupaia-measure". The name "Angel" is translated into Russian as an "angel". The waterfall is named after the gold digger - pilot Juan Angel, who for the first time officially opened this unique natural miracle. In ancient times, the Indians called the waterfall "Apemey", which means "a girl's eyebrow". On the maps of Latin America, he is in most cases designated as Salto Angel, in translation "the jump of an angel."

The Angel Falls officially opened in 1935. For a long time nature carefully concealed its phenomenon in the impenetrable forests - a boiling vertical stream of water. Why did not mankind know about the waterfall for a long time? It turns out that he, like a sleeping beauty, was safely hidden in the dense tropical forests of the Amazon. The Angel Falls is located in the mountain range of Ayan-Tepeui, which is located at an altitude of about 2600 meters. Tepuyi is called the table mountains with a flat top.

Approaches to a steep rock wall are blocked by a jungle - an impenetrable tropical forest. In 2005, for the first time seven climbers risked the whole steep wall of the beautiful waterfall, one of the brave ones was Russian.

The waterfall Angel was first discovered at the beginning of the twentieth century by explorer E. S. La Cruz. But he gained world fame thanks to the flight of James Angel.

In the 1930s, a "diamond fever" began in Venezuela. Seekers of adventure, who sought to profit, went into impassable jungle. The pilot Angel flew on a sports plane to the mountains of Ayan-Tepui, or to the Mount of the Devil. Usually their tops are hidden by clouds or fogs. Angel went on a journey in clear weather, and before his eyes opened an amazing kilometer water vertical. Juan Angel (Angel) did not find any diamond deposits. His plane made an emergency landing, and the pilot miraculously survived. Angel told about this opening to the National Geographic Society of the United States, and now his name appears on world maps. The plane of Angel is exhibited in the museum in Maracay, and on the top of the waterfall is a copy of it. In the last years of his life, the pilot lived in Venezuela, in 1956 he died. Following the will of Angel, his ashes were scattered over the waterfall.

To the waterfall Angel is very difficult to reach, there are only two roads: by air or by the river Kerep. The difficulty is that the waterfall is very picturesque and full-bodied only during the rainy season. And in the rainy season, air travel is complicated by dense clouds and dense fog, and it is almost impossible to view the waterfall. In the dry period, instead of rumbling water flow, you can see only a small stream.

If you decide to go on an exotic journey to a handsome waterfall, come first to Canaima. This is a small village with hotels and shops. Here you can organize a night's lodging, as well as hire yourself a guide.
