Tapioca - what is it, what is being prepared from it and how can this product be replaced

Considering the recipes of various puddings, pastries and some other desserts, you can see that they include tapioca. What it is, in the text, as a rule, is not described. Therefore, many housewives, not wanting to understand the exotic ingredient, simply ignore such recipes.

In fact, there is nothing outlandish in this product. Tapioca - just an artificially created from the extract of roots of cassava groats, rich in starch. In many countries of Latin America it is used to prepare a variety of dishes, including very nutritious cereals. It is a grain of grains, usually translucent, a variety of shapes that are quickly prepared. Tapioca is a dietary product, therefore it is often used to prepare food for children, as well as people who have health problems. Cook this porridge on milk or broth. The result is a light, but nutritious dish, the main ingredient of which is tapioca. What is it, many, having tried, will disassemble not at once. To taste it remotely resembles another artificial cereal of cornstarch, once popular in the USSR. It bore the name "sago" and quickly entered the diet of Soviet people in the mid-1980s. In addition to dietary cereals and soups, there are also desserts, which include tapioca.

The recipe for pudding

This tasty and quite useful dish is prepared literally half an hour. One of its main ingredients is tapioca (what to replace it, if you can not buy this product, you can find out more). The dessert turns out to be moderately sweet and quite satisfying. But most importantly, he practically does not harm the figure.

For 3 cups of milk (it is better to use whole milk, but to reduce caloric content it is possible and fat-free) take half a glass of instant tapioca (can be replaced with the same amount of sago), 100 g of sugar, 2 eggs, salt on the tip of the knife and a little vanilla.

The process of preparation begins with the boiling of cereals. Do this in boiling milk, where the tapioca goes (what is it - described earlier) or sago. Then add sugar and salt, mix and boil for 5 minutes. When using sago, cook longer - according to the instructions on the package. Next, the fire must be made minimal and leave the mixture for another 2-3 minutes to languish.

At this time, eggs are beaten. It is desirable that they are white. Then 200 ml of a hot mixture of milk and tapioca are gradually introduced into the eggs, trying to mix well - then they will not fold. The resulting mass is then poured into a pot of porridge and pressed for another 2-3 minutes. Then add vanilla there, mix and pour into serving bowls. You can serve both hot and cold, decorated with whipped cream, fruit, chocolate.

Tapioca cocktail

Sweet milk drinks are loved by both children and adults. As a rule, these are cocktails, which can also benefit if one of the ingredients is tapioca (what kind of balls are floated from above, the kids will never guess, but this knowledge is for them and to nothing).

So, for 100 ml of chilled milk take 30 g of vanilla or cream ice cream, fruit or chocolate for decoration. Still need tapioka (special for desserts sold in the form of large balls). It is boiled for half an hour in large quantities of water, and then watered with caramel or hot chocolate.

Ice cream is mixed with milk with a blender, then poured into glasses, add tapioca and decorated with chocolate or fruit.
